Hiya Kayleigh,
I was exactly the same pre op. I was in the gym 5 days a week doing HIIT, weights and everything else lol prior to surgery. I was so nervous about how my operation would affect me with regards to returning back to the gym.
After my operation (3 months ago) I found it difficult not keeping active but I just kept telling myself health/recovery comes first.
I returned to the gym 6 weeks after surgery doing very light weight and steady cardio. I was back to my normal routine after 2 weeks. Couldn’t believe how quickly I was back to normal. I honestly believe that all the training I did prior to surgery was what helped me to quickly get fit when I returned to the gym (muscle memory maybe).
The only issue I found with all the training I did prior, was that my chest muscles were quite tight, so drop and fluff took a little longer than most because my muscles took longer to relax over the implant (my nurse explained this to me). I didn’t start D&F until 9 weeks post op, this was when my chest muscles started to relax. It was worth it in the end though because I got my fitness levels back really quickly.
All the best for your upcoming surgery. Enjoy your special journey xx
