Hi ladies, I have my op on Saturday admission is 8am and my surgeon said I should be in theatres by 9. I’ve been feeling nervous all along but now it’s getting closer I keep having feelings that I will chicken out on the day.

I’m not a wimp lol I had my daughter 10 months ago with no pain relief and a large amount of stitches it’s not the pain I’m worried about its the surgery it’s self.

I do really really want this and my surgeon has fully explained everything to me. I don’t know what is wrong with me I just feel so scared now. I am a staff nurse and have worked in theatres in some major cases so maybe this is what’s putting me off as I’ve never had a general anaesthetic:/ I have asked for local but he is adamant the general is the better option. Was anyone else feeling this apprehensive about having a GA? :/ or am I been a baby lol

Hi Melissa, I was exactly the same. I have had a fair few GA’s in my life but this time round I was so nervous. I do have two children now so maybe that was why. It’s honestly nothing to be afraid of. The anaesthetists are so good at what they do and I’m sure you know that you are monitored closely throughout. I was a nervous wreck before my op so it’s totally normal but I really didn’t need to be. It’s just like going to sleep except you drop off in a couple of seconds and then you wake up with boobs! haha!

You might get a bit of sickness or nausea afterwards but it’s only mild and passes quickly and your throat might be a teeny bit sore. Mine just feels a little bit sore when I swallow my pain meds or yawn (my op was on Monday) but other than that I’m fine. It really is nothing – you’ll be fine!

Good luck with your operation on Saturday and try not to stress too much (I know it’s impossible not to though) 😉

    xx

Thanks Georgie, I know I want this I just keep thinking I’ll be too nervous on the day. I’m not having it done with Mya tho so hoping my experience is as stress free as the stories u read on here. I think ur right about having the kids I have 2 girls so that’s probably why I’m feeling so nervous. I just want it over and done with lol I’m glad I have an early theatre slot so there is less time to chicken out lol. Glad ur feeling well 🙂

Having children definitely makes you more worried. I think also this was the first operation that I had that I didn’t ‘need’ – it was totally my choice rather than for medical reasons and that made me more nervous I think!

I didn’t go with Mya either! My surgeon was Jonathan Staiano (he’s based in Birmingham) Who are you having yours with?

It will be all be done before you know it – early theatre time really helps (I was in by 10am) and then you can go home and relax 🙂

Thanks Hun that helps I’m hoping it all goes quickly and I’ll be home in the afternoon. How long did u have to stay before they discharged u? Aw I live in Birmingham 🙂 but I’m having mine done in Preston with a private breast surgeon he was recommended by the consultants I work with at the hospital I work in. He’s ordered 375cc up to 450cc and will decide on the day which is best for me. What size did u have and r u happy? To be honest I haven’t really been worried about the pain afterwards really as I’ve been too stressed thinking about having a GA lol how r u managing ur pain and is it as bad as u expected it to be? As I don’t really know what to expect :/

I stayed in 6 hours after coming round from my op. My nurse was being extra cautious with me though as I get faint quite easily and felt a bit sick.

I had 450cc overs. That was the max I could have in high profile, any bigger and I would have had to have ultra high and I was a bit unsure of those. I’m only 3 days out but so far I’m really happy with the size. I think any bigger would have looked a bit too much on my frame as I’m only 5ft2. I think they will shrink a little though as I’m quite swollen but I still think they will be a decent size. I have polyurethane implants so they take a little while longer to soften, they feel a lot softer than I expected them to be already though so I’m pleased. Excited to see how they change!

Painwise hasn’t been that bad at all. I did have overs though which makes a difference. I’ve not had any painkillers today and I feel ok. It’s more just a bit sore and achey than anything. Lots of pressure like someone pressing down on your chest. If I get up and walk around I feel a bit weak after a few minutes so I’m just resting a lot. I’ve been sleeping fine with a few pillows propped up behind my back/head so that my chest is just slightly raised. Morning is the worst as there is a lot of pressure and swelling but I can’t say it hurts…more uncomfortable!

Are you having unders or overs?

Having unders :/ high profile natrelles I think he will put the 375 in as I am small I’ve just told him I don’t want to look silly lol

Thanks for all ur help Georgie I have been really stressed and nervous…my best mate had hers done but that was over 10 years ago now and other than her I don’t know anyone else so haven’t been able to talk about it much lol

@mellisa I feel very nervous too hun!! The closer it’s getting to op date the more I’m thinking about it. Like you it’s just the anesthetic I’m really worried about.
I just guess you’ve got to think of these 1000s of patients that are having this op every day and we are in the care of professionals that will look after us.
It’s going to be the first operation I’ve ever had and what’s making me worry is that I’m choosing to do this I don’t need to. I keep thinking is this a sensible descision to go under anesthetic and have my body cut open for the sake of boobs?!
I guess this is all natural pre op nerves and I’m sure once it’s done we will have forgotten all about this bit!
Good luck with your op hun and keep us updated on here will be good to hear of your experience. X

I’m sure he’ll make the right choice. With unders you’ll prob be in a bit more pain than I have been but just keep on top of your meds and you will be fine! And I was the same, luckily my surgeon put me in touch with another of his patients who had hers done a year ago and she’s been such a great help. It’s nice to speak to other people who have been through the same thing but luckily there are so many people on here to speak to too 🙂

Keep us updated on how it goes!!

    Good luck! xxx

You will be absolutely fine! I had never had any op and wanted local but had to have general and being honest, it was fab! The feeling of being put under was really good lol felt like a happy drunk for a few seconds and then I was waking up, shivering (that was my only side effect) and didn’t even have a sore throat. I was up and about 15 mins after I got back to my room and left after 3 hours. Promise you’ll be fine x

I am going in for mine tomorrow morning?
I have an admission time of 7.30am and have to drive an hour to get there so will have my calming music on in the car!
Not going through Mya either, having mine done in Surrey.
I have two kids and am also petrified of GA as never been under before, just keeping everything crossed for a stress free follow up with no complications.

    Good luck??

    Hi
Just wanted to update you after my op today.
Was not as nervous as I thought I would be on way there, arrived at 7..30am and from there I really didn’t have time to feel nervous as I had the nurse, surgeon and anesthetist in and out of my room until 8.30am, at this point I was shaking uncontrollably, but anesthetist’s were lovely, asked me what I would order if I was in a pub right now……and that was it,next thing I know I woke up at 10.30 am!
Not had too much pain so far,but I am bracing myself for it to be worse tomorrow.

    Good luck for tomorrow.x

I did it ??? and Harriet the general was absolutely fine. I don’t remember anything after the anaesthetist put my drip in then I woke up in recovery if really is nothing to worry about. They gave me pain relief but I am abit sore I ended up having the 415s so I’m happy they feel so tight tho right now. Just abit sore and the general did make me sick a few times but I persuaded the surgeon to give me tramadol to go home with as well as the others lol I’m at home now and feeling good ???

Lol Dani I did exactly the same haha I think the recovery nurse must have thought I was abit weird as I kept asking her then saying I can’t believe I did it lol. I slept ok last night I took the tramadol before sleep and woke up about 3ish and took another dose I think it’s the sleeping upright that’s bothering me as it’s more my back that’s uncomfortable :/ how r u getting on? And how is ur pain xx

Not feeling as bad as I thought, been managing on paracetamol and ibuprofen.
I was really worried that having partials would be really painful but the only uncomfortable part so far is where my Macom feels like it’s rubbing on my right incision and the shift in weight from leaning back when sitting to standing.
Sleeping propped up on 3 pillows lastnight was kinda uncomfortable, hubby woke up to find me half in/out the bed rocking myself backward and forward trying to get up?I really miss that hospital bed with the up/down buttons!x

Yea ur right about the discomfort it kinda just feels like I’ve done loads of press ups I put the macom on last night and can also feel the rubbing where both incisions r but the dressings r dry. The nurse just called to see how I was getting on which was nice and she said I should maybe get some ice packs cuz i am really swollen. Glad ur feeling ok too tho I am bracing myself for it to get worse and as he one day ahead of me u can keep me posted on the pain lol xx
