I know lots of you girls have been worried about the dreaded post op bloat!
Bloating occurs as a side effect of the anaesthetic and also all of the strong pain meds you’re on after surgery.
You probably won’t be able to go to the loo for ages after your surgery either so getting a mild laxative is really advised!
If you are prone to indigestion, reflux or heartburn the strong antibiotics you’re on for the 1st week can really make this worse. I can’t stress enough regardless of if you have dealt with indigestion before, make sure you eat even a tiny bit to line your stomach before taking your antibiotic and pain meds this will really help with side effects. Also eating yoghurt will help prevent or lessen side effects while taking antibiotics, yoghurt contains some types of bacteria that can replace the bacteria that are being killed off by the antibiotics and make your gut healthy again.
When I finished my strong pain meds and went onto paracetamol I felt a little better and I wasn’t quite as bloated but it was definitely still there and getting me slightly down!!
This morning at post op day 14 I woke up and my stomach was flat!!! I was so happy! Now my boobs look huge because I am back to my normal weight and frame haha!!
So girls don’t worry… the bloat will go eventually!
Herbal teas may help a little with bloating. Ginger tea is great for indigestion, gas, bloating and over digestion. I always love drinking ginger tea.
Green tea is also great for digestion and bloating. You can also try squeezing lemon juice into hot water every morning. Peppermint Tea, Dandelion Root Tea and Fennel are also know to be good for bloating.
Also try to eat as healthy as possible, lots of fresh fruit, protein, vegetables. Not only should this help with your stomach issues and help you go to the loo, it will also help speed up your recovery and your incision healing.
