Had my rhinoplasty today

I had open septo plasty with Dr G at Highgate, I’m not in a lot of pain but I’m finding that not being able to breath through my nose at all in the worst bit it feels SO stuffed does anyone know how long this will last? It makes it so hard to eat or drink and I deffo won’t be sleeping for a while! Glad it’s done now though

hi I had mine done on the 9th and I am also finding it difficult to get used to the breathing situation. Also finding it hard to sleep and eat. Hopefully tomorrow I will feel better and I can make up for all the lost food :D. Is yours just leaking with snotty stuff all the time? mine is and I don’t know wether to keep the guaze on

Did you have open or closed? Yeah mine has been leaking with blood and snotty stuff I’ve changed my gauze a few times today to keep it more clean. Have you slept or ate much? I’ve slept no longer than 10-15 mins at a time and I have ate some toast, soup and a bit of ice cream but I feel so bunged up, my ears feel really weird when I swallow like full of pressure and I had a weird moment when my throat felt all blocked up too and I thought I was going to choke ahhh.

I had open, yeah I’m feeling the enact same , I’m tired constantly as sleep in non existent. I think most of it is because I’m scared incase I roll on my side! Eatin wise I’m just forcing food down, it’s making the snot worse. But hey all it’s all self inflicted right :)! When have you got your check up? I can’t wait to get my splint off already!!

I managed to leave my gauze off for the past couple of hours and used the nose spray to loosen it a bit so it is runny but a tiny bit of air is getting through. I’m not sure I think Monday when are you having it? Have you been feeling sick at all? I was almost sick this morning I was so worried!

I had open septo plasty last week… As well as my boobs!
I had the exact same as you two. But.My nose is no longer runny… But all dried up with what was previously coming out. To the point that the entire nostrils are blocked because of the horrid stuff that has gone hard. (Grim, I know)
I got told not to pick at it at all and to just leave it as it’s almost like blood scabs but if they’re pulled they can damage the nose internally. I also didn’t get any sort of spray either? Was I meant to?! I did worry about how hygienic it is to just leave the nose all gross..! I have to say that the first days were a lot easier for me as now I just feel a lot of pressure on my face which I didn’t at the start. Although my painkillers have run out so that may be why! I was taking the max amount of painkillers allowed and this was the only time I could sleep.

The worse part now though is the itching!!! Oh my days. It really started itching on day 4. This is internally but also feels like it’s itchy underneath the splint. My boobs have started itching at the same time which is a good sign of healing but wow, annoying! I’m on day 5 now and swelling from eyes has gone but it moved to my lower cheeks yesterday (weird) . Will definitely be worth it… It’s irritating but it’ll be over soon!! xx

Oh no I don’t feel sick I’m just fed up already.. The snot is getting in the way of everything! Haha. I don’t think I could cope with my boobs too!! I feel sorry for myself as I am now, I really feel for you having both done! I Also managed to eat some weetabix earlier which has made me feel loads Better! Where you worried if your splint moves? That’s my biggest fear, one side is a little more swollen than the other but i just keep saying to myself it’s the swelling!

Trust me, I’m feeling sorry for myself now, ha.
Yes, I’ve been so worried about the splint moving!! I actually caught my nose with my hand when I was asleep which hurt incredibly. It also made me bleed quite a bit… But it looks as though it didn’t move. They had to give me a cartilage graft in the end as, In the surgeons words, it was one of the most complex noses he’s worked on… So I’m kind of not expecting a perfect nose but I took before photos and then taken photos with the splint on etc and put the photos next to each other (I used this option from Instagram) which allowed me to see the difference in length and width.. And even with the swelling I can see a really positive difference!! I also didn’t think that my nose was swollen before it was as it’s gone down today. I was told that I can’t get symmetry but wow, already can see a difference 😀 x
I’m just concerned about the nose spray now… Why did I not get one?! x

Ps. I was almost sick a few times as well but didn’t know of that was down to boobs or nose!! Or both! It’s only happened if I stood up and tried to do something or if I talked too much (!) x

Maybe the doctor felt you didnt need or couldn’t have one because of how complicated your surgery was? I’m sure there must be a reason for it maybe you can ask your nurse? I can’t wait til I can sleep normally again I keep yawning and I worry that’s moving something in my nose!

The nose spray is one you can buy in the shops, it’s a saline spray. Iv only used it once as the snot is too much to get used too! Just get someone to into your local chemist. I’m sure they’ll stock some :D! Yeah the splint is worrying me, I’m scared incase iv slept on it and moved it

I had a open rhino last year! – All what you are experiencing is all normal so dont worry! I wouldnt worry about the splint moving its stuck on there and isnt moving! I dropped my iphone on my cast Post op day 2! and It was okay when the cast was removed!

Just keep propped up with pillows x x x

When did you find you could breathe or sleep a bit more normally? I just cannot sleep propped upright I’m so exhausted ahh

Oh good! That’s stopped me panicing! Yeah my family keep saying about going to get stronger pain killers so I can sleep I’m not sleeping either 🙁

Towards the end of having my cast off as then i started getting used to sleeping upright and out of my mouth haha. Breathing to be honest i still have good and bad days when my nose is slightly swollen itll be hard to breath out of one nostril but it gets better a month or two after op x xx

I haven’t used any of the ibuprofen or paracetamol yet just the antibiotics and nasal spray, I don’t know if they will help me sleep it just feels swollen and stuffed and I find it hard to sleep upright

I used Ibuprofen and still do tho this day when my nose is swollen! – The nasal spray helped it loosend the gunk inside the nose.

I know its so hard to sleep upright but head above heart helps reduce swelling .. xx

Gabriella, did you use a spray? I was told not to… But seriously, the insides of my nose are completely blocked with scabs etc which I think may be why I’m feeling so much pressure on my face. And omg. The itching is driving me insane! Can’t wait for fri to have it all removed and have a good itch!!

I’m also sleeping well. I’ve no choice but to sleep on my back (boobs won’t allow anything else) so I can’t roll over either which probably helps a lot. I have a reclining sofa so have been sleeping on that which also helps.

I did – The nurse at the hospital gave it to me – Im not sure on DR Gs thoughts on the spray but I did use it after the stitches were out! it losened it alot.

The itching is a really good sign – its the bones knitting together and forming again to heal.

Yeah thats good! I found eating ice cubes from the start was good as i found it difficult to breath, talk , eat all out of my mouth so insted of trying to sip things and choke chewing on ice helped x x x

My nose is quite runny I’m gently dabbing it if it goes past my nostril but leaving it otherwise. I find it easier to deal with in the day than at night because I just can’t sleep for longer than 10 minutes and it’s not really proper sleep argh feels like it will never get better! 🙁

Iv still got a gauze on mine, I’m changing it every hour or so… Surely if I keep rubbing it it’s more unhygienic than changing a gauze? Xx

Yeah I think you’re right I’m only having to dab mine every hour if that its running but not past my nostril, I’m going to wear a gauze for overnight though. Have you had any blood or just snotty stuff? Mine is just clear now

Both clear and a little bit pink no red blood though which is good! I’m still bringing up blood in my mouth though but I’m sure it’s just off my throat! Think this time in 2 week we will be all better!! EEeee 🙂

Yeah I won’t be surprised if I start having blood come out again on and off as it must be all bunged up there! I’m glad someone else had it the same day as me so I know I’m not the only one going through it, I still haven’t heard off nurse but they said my first post-op to take out stitches would be monday so I’m going to get in touch if they don’t let me know tomorrow, when is yours?

She rang me last night around 9oclock, she didn’t really say much just said i should expect runny clear and pink stuff if it’s really red it’s bad. I’m sure you’ll get a phone call soon, once again I’m tired but can’t sleep… Hopefully it’ll get better tomorrow!!

And I’m also getting my stitches out Monday then splint 23rd just in time for Christmas 😀 xx

Yeah I am really tired but I will not be sleeping again I can tell already, I have a V pillow but it’s not comfortable so I’ve ordered another one to be delivered tomorrow so maybe that will help me

Argos, I got one for £20 but it’s like feathers and heavy and not comfortable so I’ve ordered the £10 one that should be more soft like a normal pillow.

Tonight has been my worst night so far I feel really nauseous and I’ve heaved a couple of times I’m so scared I’m going to be sick 🙁 Getting a bit freaked out

I did vomit last night but the nurse said it was okay and my appointment is 10am on Monday for stitches and 10.30 the Monday after for cast off! Feel better now I know that it’s not really bad if I am sick, how are you feeling today any different?

Yeah mine are both on Monday too! You will have to send me a picture when the casts off! Oh no as if you where sick! Just hope you feel better now :)! Today I’m just feeling dirty, especially the tape it’s covered in gunk! Ergh!

Yeah I will! Have you been taking the ibuprofen? I’ve not taken mine as I’ve not been eating much and worried it’ll make me more sick having tablets on an empty stomach

Yeah iv been taking mine, it helps with the swelling. Have you tried weetabix that’s what I eat this morning, it don’t sound nice but I left them to go soggy so they went down. I hope you fin something to eat 🙁 you must be feeling like crap!

I managed to have some toast and some ice cream, my nose isn’t tripping very much at all today, have you tried the nasal spray yet?

Yeah it’s drying up now yey!! Now my friends just keep coming with chocolate and mcdonalds I can get used to this!! Haha. You feeling any better? Xx

No nothing, I feel for you I couldn’t think of anything worse now! Your throats probz sore off being sick! Maybe you should go your local doctors and get some stronger painkillers! All I can feel is the gunge :(! Xx

I’m getting the nausea again now and my stomach hurts 🙁 You seem to be doing so well I wish I was doing the same 🙁 Have you been sleeping normally?

Oh no and here’s me feeling sorry for myself, I think you should go back to your doctors, it might be the antibiotics not agreeing with you. There must be something, I’m just bunged up and swollen face, I can’t sleep but iv given up on that now xx

I said I thought it was the anitbiotics too! Only two more days of them though so hopefully I’ll feel better after that. I’m ever so bored aswell it doesn’t help

How u feeling today? My swellings starting to go yey!!!

Well I felt kind of better but my throat is SO sore I’m pretty sure it’s scratched as its only sore in one spot but its agony to eat because of it, my swelling is also starting to go down too and my bruising is way more yellow. How are you feeling other than the swelling? Have you has any sickness or anything and are you sleeping better?

I slept better last night, I can feel it getting easier.. I’m eating fine now, I just need to get used to eating with my mouth open! And tbh iv had no siickness whatsoever the anti biotics must now be agreeing with you xx

I keep getting waves of sickness and have noticed its normally around the time I take my antibiotics 🙁 but tomorrow is out last day of them so ill know on Sunday if I feel any better
