So I’ve been researching online and found that you can have this procedure done with under IV sedation rather then a general. The only thing that has stopped me doing this before now is the thought of been put to sleep and relying on tubes and machines to breath for me scared me, I know it sounds daft and I know I’ll probably be fine but if IV is an option I will definitely do it that way! Just wasn’t sure if it was only offered to people who for what ever reason can’t have a general or if you can opt for it? Any advice please xx
I’ve hobestly never heard of that before but it may be an option, probably better to ask a personal coodernator. I’ve been put to sleep 7 times already, will be 8 when I have my breast enlargement this month and I’ve never once had an issue. It’s not as bad as you think, honestly xx
Hiya, I am a sedation nurse and work with both GA and IV and to be honest General Aneasthetic is safer than IV as your airway is protected and you are fully monitored at all times. Both IV and GA are very safe and it’s very rare for something to go wrong but it is more likely with IV as it can be more unpredictable. Xx
Thank you for your replies. I know the usual way would be a general anaesthetic and I’m sure it would be fine but I can’t help but worry. Am I right in thinking with IV your still asleep but not in as deep of a sleep? I’ve read a lot of different opinions about both online and also found that the recovery period is better with IV? I’ve been told by the clinic there’s only one surgeon there who will actually preform it under IV too. Xx
Hiya, with IV you are technically still conscious and “awake” as in you can respond/are aware if someone speaks to you although most people have no memory of what happened when they were sedated or for a short period of time after. I too have heard it is not common for breast augmentation and have been told that due to the time, nature of surgery, need to be still etc it’s not best suited for IV unless there’s a major need not to have GA. The recovery time for GA is pretty quick nowadays and the main recovery is from the op not the GA/IV. The IV is administered in the same way as the drugs given for IV -via cannula so no difference there and the odds of you not waking up are less than having a plane crash so almost minute. I too was very nervous of GA and o think seeing them done all the time didn’t help although it did reassure me that everyone woke up and of course I did too xx
Thank you, that’s a little more reassuring. If the best way is general then I will go with that, I just thought if IV was an option, it sounded better. Reading mixed reviews online doesn’t help lol. I’m having my first consultation this week so will see what they say. So excited!! Thank you for the info xx
I was so scared of having a GA Hun that was the only thing that really stopped me from having a BA sooner. I have to say though it was actually nothing like what I expected, I’d do it all again tomorrow if I had to. I found it great, I didn’t have any side affects at all and actually felt fantastic when I woke up like I’d had the best sleep of my life! You will be fine lovely, it’s totally normal to be nervous but honestly afterwards you’ll think why did I worry! Xx
Aw thank you for the reassurance. That’s the only thing that’s held me back too! It’s awful because I really want to have it done but just I’ve stupidly googled general anaesthetic and read some horror stories and just worried myself even more! I really want it done though so going to have to get used to the idea. Also do you know how they the decide what size would be best and what does the moderate, high profile etc mean? Xx
