Hi girls,
I’ve just had my first surgeon consultation and it’s left me feeling a little deflated. Apparently the space in between my breasts is slightly raised rather than being flat. This means that I have a higher risk of tenting or worse case scenario, symmastia (uniboob).
Has anyone had this risk and gone through with the surgery?
I honestly had no idea what tenting was until today so it’s left me feeling confused and sad as I’ve wanted boobs for so long but don’t want to regret it!
Hi, I wasn’t at any risk of this but I developed it after my first op! I had to have revision surgery which was so painful as I had to have permanent sutures down the centre to my sternum, and I wore I thong bra for three months although they look sooo much better now if I knew I would of developed it I wouldn’t of had them done to be honest x
Hi Jamie,
Sounds awful what you’ve been through. This is my biggest worry. Just not sure if it’s gonna be worth it. How long after your initial Ba was your revision surgery? I’ve booked in for another consultation with a different surgeon for a second opinion to help me make up my mind. Glad they’ve managed to sort you out x

I was very lucky in that he saw the problem straight away and I had revision surgery after 6 months so I didn’t have to wait too long, yes always worth getting another opinion, more risk of it happening with overs aswell x
Hi, I have just had a consultation and was told I have congenital symmastia! Needless to say, this was not what I wanted to hear! Although he just carried on saying that it would be straightforward implants and wha size I could go up to. (This was not with MYA).
I’m really worried about going ahead with anything now too as at the moment you can’t tell, but with implants it is likely to show more!
Dana, did you get a second opinion? How did it go?
Hi Dawn 🙂 So i don’t have symmastia as such, but due to the slightly raised skin in between my boobs I was told I could develop it after surgery. I don’t really have a big gap in between my boobs they’re quite close together. So I’ve had 2 more consultations since then and the surgeon I’ve gone for has fully explained how symmastia is usually caused by bad surgical choices, such a making the pockets for the implants too close together. I feel happy with the surgeon that I’ve chose (also not with MYA) and my surgery is now booked for September. I’m so excited! Have you decided what you’re going to do? xxx
Thanks Dana. I’m glad you’ve been reassured!
I have had a couple more econsults and told the same. Only the 1st one said it was symmastia, others have said maybe some tenting like you have described but not symmastia and it doesn’t mean I will develop ‘uniboob’. Like you say it’s all about the surgical choices.. I Have chosen a surgeon who has experience with my ‘issues’ (I also have pectus excavatum, which could explain the slightly raised skin over my sternum) he was really reassuring and talked me through it all – still waiting for my face to face but hopefully will have a much clearer picture then, but so far, I’m still keen to go ahead!
Hope it all goes well for you in September, I’d love to hear how it all goes for you 🙂x
Thanks Dawn. I’ll definitely keep you updated with it all. Hopefully it won’t be too long now for your face to face consultations. Keep me updated with your journey 🙂 xxx
