Hi guys, im 14 days post op today and ive been having pain in my left armpit. Initially it was just sensitive to touch and I thought it must just be normal, but over the last couple of days it has become painful and sore against my sports bra and last night I noticed a lump in my armpit. I rung my emergency nurse and she told me I needed to go to my nearest clinic ASAP which is Liverpool. The Liverpool clinic however is shut for 5 days, so she suggested that I go to the Manchester clinic instead. The Manchester clinic would be an all day journey for me and I wanted to have the lump looked at immediately so I said I would head to my GP this morning and go from there.
My GP said everything looked fine but she was treating it as an infection as my lymph node was swollen and it shouldn’t be. I am now on a 7 day course of flucloxacillin which should hopefully get rid of the infection. I rung my MYA nurse to inform her of what my GP had advised and she told me she would call me back in 48 hours to see how I am, then if I am still no better I would need to go to the Manchester clinic. I asked the nurse what I could have done to prompt an infection, as I have been very very well rested, taken all my antibiotics and looked after my dressings, always worn my sports bra and cleaned and dried my wounds when told to do so. She said if I had followed all my after care information she could not see how I had picked up any kind of infection, she also commented on how she had never heard of this happening to another patient before which obviously got me very concerned and worried…so I am just wondering if anyone on here has had a similar infection or experience?
Thanks,
Sofie x
