Long term side effects

Hi, i was wondering if anyone has spoken to their surgeon or done any research into long term side effects. I am still in the process of deciding whether I want them or not – I’ve saved for years for them, but have been reading some scary things putting me off.

Does anyone know anything about breast implant illness, or BIA-ALCL? I’ve read things like, it’s not a matter of if you will get sick, but when. So difficult to know what to believe 🙁

Yeah this scares me aswell as I’ve read up on it too and feel there’s not enough information out there x

Definitely, I don’t want to get something done that I’m going to regret 10 years later because it’s damaged my health.

But dont want to regret not getting them done because I’ve always wanted to do it and I know they’ll look great. Just wish there was more research!! Part of me thinks all these horror stories can’t be made up, there must be some side effects!?

I read alot of scary stuff too but decided to go ahead because the stats of high risk side effects are so low i decided i wanted to feel good about myself rather than wondering what if. My surgeon was really good and answered all questions I had so I’d say maybe see a few surgeons and ask diferent ones the same questions see what answers you get and only do it if you’re comfortable. 🙂

I actually cancelled my op because of this and did some research before j went ahead, according to the research i found, the chances of getting this is very low, but j was very scared by the thought, but apparently it is more rare with smooth implants as the belief is the textured implant give the body places to get in and start inflammation, so I went a year until i realised that how low i felt about myself I was living a full happy life any way so I went ahead but i changed my implants to smooth, only you can make the choice as if it’s going to make you ill with stress thinking about it and worrying after i wouldnt go ahead, just weigh up the pros and cons, I couldn’t be happier since I got my boobies and all my friends and family have said they have seen a difference too, let’s face it we could get hit by a car tomorrow and the chances of that are a lot higher, but i totally understand your worry as I said I cancelled my op over it, good luck with your decision xx

Thank you for your responses, I went for a consultation and surgeon said a similar thing that these side effects are possible but very rare and he has only seen 2 patients with it, where explant relieved their symptoms.

Still thinking about whether to get it done but dont want rush a big decision and am going to speak to a different surgeon to see what he says. Its difficult looking on photos on this forum and seeing how amazing everyone looks!! xx

Had my 2nd consultation last week and all ready to book. Then came across these horror stories of breast implant illness! Scaring me ! But I’m still in two minds as to go ahead . What actually causes this? Is it toxins from the implant ?

Hi Kelly, I’ve spoken to 2 surgeons about this and I think it’s because some women have bad reactions to silicone which can cause inflammation and make a patient unwell. Also older types of implant can rupture more easily, meaning silicone can travel outside of the capsule and cause side effects. I’ve booked my BA on 4th September and decided to trust my surgeons opinion that this is rare and has no scientific evidence to support it. Of course we can always get them removed if we react badly.

I couldn’t find a definitive answer but decided it must be reasonably safe because everyone I’ve met who has had a BA is perfectly fine, and celebs etc have them all the time!! xx
