Ok, so orginally my mum was going to take a week off work, but now she can only have 2 days off! I’m having my op on a tuesday and she’ll be back at work on the thursday of that week. Getting a bit worried about looking after the kids on my own. Does anyone have any suggestions? My kids are 2, 4 and 7, and are very boysterous. Their dad is away that weekend so can’t help 🙁
Mum can take the older 2 to school in the mornings and I’ll ask a friend to drop them off after school, so at least I won’t be doing the school run with my 2 year old in tow.
I know everyone is different but what will I be like 3-4 days post op? What will I be able to do? Arrange playdates for them all?!
try to get as much help as possible for the 1st wk at least. I have 2 year old and struggled on my 2nd wk. even now 12 days po I cannot lift her and I dont want to incase healing goes wrong. talk to ur 7 year old and ask for his/her help. its not easy, plus u will be so tired
Hi Hun good luck for your op! your two year old is the one to worry about, as obviously most demanding, for first 7-10 days things are toughest. Stuff like lifting into a bed, car seat, push chair etc, definitely take advantage of any play date offers or child care options you have. I arranged for kids to be out as much as poss for first week or so and was grateful I had. Having said that- you’re a mum of three small children! You’ll probably breeze through it 🙂 x
I found it hard when my 2 year old niece was around bcz they don’t understand you cany move much try get a friend to sit around with u or something xxx
Hay hun I’m 10 days post op now and this is the first night my 2 year old is back with me over night.. I am I single mum so she has been staying in her dads and my mums, (I had her in the days) I have been very lucky to have the help…
But just a few things I done also before my op:
I bought her a fold away stood which she can pick up and move about so she can get on and off my bed or in and out the pram with little assistance as possible.
I also shown her how to go down the stairs safely (feet first and tummy against the stairs).
Oh and I also ironed a weeks worth of clothes for her and hung them all up ready to wear… Therefore I could have a asking free week and as little house work as possible!!!
Ohh and I also stocked up on ‘easy to cook meals’
I was really ill for the first two days and I’m desperately need the help but as you said everyone is different!!! Good luck it will all be worth it!!! Xxx
Hi Laura – i’m also a single mum! You were really lucky to have all that help from your ex. Mine doesn’t even know about my op!! Hope i’m not ill after the op…
My 2 year old is very independant and can dress himself, go to the loo, up and down stairs etc without help. Also he’s in a toddler bed so i don’t need to lift him into that. They grow up too quickly when they have older brothers/sisters to copy! But i know he’ll want me to pick him up and give him a cuddle… that’s going to be hard.
Have asked a couple of friends about playdates 🙂 Will be doing all the housework the day before the op, and freezing a few portions of spag bol etc! I’m not going to drive for 2 weeks… my 2 year old can’t climb into his carseat on his own and I really don’t fancy lifting him at a funny angle!
