Hi girls,
Don’t know if anyone can advise me on this..
I was put in antidepressants just over a month ago, had a check up on Monday and my gp said he would be happy for me to have surgery and I am mentally stable, however mya have said I have to be on them for 6 months before they will let me have surgery.
My gp has said it only takes 4 weeks for the medication to get into my system which has why he has said I am stable and would happily write me a letter however mya have still said it’s a no go so looks like I will be looking to go elsewhere…
Has anyone else had this problem? I’m so upset and not too sure what to do??xx
Hey hun, they have those guidelines to ensure you are of sound mind and not making a random hasty choice to have surgery it’s not just about them not being in ur system. Lots of people have gone onto have their surgery despite a history of anti depressants or anxiety.
Seriously having the op and preparing for it all can be very stressful and anxious so I’d personally wait it out if I were you. If you want it bad enough and you really want to go with Mya then there’s no harm really.
To be honest any cosmetic surgery willing to operate so soon after being on anti depressants could be acting quite neglectful and I would be very wary of them depending on ur circumstances.
It’s a common operation but its still traumatic on the body and you fo through so many emotions before, during and after. If u have only just got off anti depressants I really don’t think it’s wise. I obviously don’t know you but I was prescribed some during a rough time and I only took one cos it made me feel so out of it and not myself.
I don’t even think they’re allowed to do it tbh. The guidelines are there to protect them as a company and u as the patient in case there was an issue or problem afterwards plus it’s a matter of duty of care to you.
If having a boob job is what u really want then ur best to wait out the period set and do more research in the meantime. Just ask urself what will six months difference really make?
I have a history of work related stress and anxiety plus some other minor medical things to do with my blood so personally I understand how it feels to have something u want delayed. I was waiting on my blood results to get the go ahead. My anxiety issues were several years ago so it wasn’t a problem. If you’re still unhappy with what they have said then ur best to speak again to management at Mya or ur surgeon so they can explain where they’re coming from.
Fxx
I was on anti anxiety tablets 2 years ago but I didn’t take them because I didn’t want to be relying on tablets to make me feel better I wanted to overcome it myself, I told mya this and told them that it was 2 years ago and they was fine with it because it was so long ago, when I met my surgeon he clarified that I hadn’t taken any medication and when I said “no” he looked at me and smiled and said “good”, so anti anxiety/depression medication is obviously looked at a bad thing when it comes to surgery, I can’t even imagine how your feeling but honestly 6 months will fly by, it’s deffinatly worth waiting and getting it done in 6 months xxx
It’s definitely seen as a concern because it’s all about ur mental state!
I’ve supported women on here who are thinking of backing our of their op cos they think they’re gona not wake up and see their kids which is a normal thing to worry about. However mix tht with someone who has been clinically identified as anxious or depressed and been on meds for it… That could end up a totally different scenario
Plus of u got them done then hated them or felt terrible about ur decision and wanted a re op Mya wouldn’t want to be liable for it so tht prob comes down to the 6month clause. I booked mine end of July/Aug (5 month wait) and got them done Dec so I waited and was glad I did cos I was super prepared knew exactly what I needed and had a very smooth recovery.
Being given anti anxiety or meds for depression isn’t something to take lightly they ARE seriously strong drugs and any health professional would want to find out the root cause before going ahead which is what happens at ur pre op and when ur Dr signs off. End of the day the guidelines are there to support u not put u off.
If ur in any professional career and have a health assessment they ask if u suffer or have had these meds. If u can get through a bad patch without them that’s great but obviously not everyone is strong as that.
Casey as far as I’m aware transform will still go ahead with the surgery, i had the same issue with mya they said i have to be 6 months clear of meds before the op so i have left it for now, i hadn’t even taken the meds but because i could not prove this they refused even with a doctors letter. Transform said it wouldn’t affect me having surgery as long as i proved that i was stable. Although as the other ladies have said it may be best if you wait a little while as your mental health and wellbeing is of primary importance xx
