Hi guys I had a blood test yesterday , my pc only asked for a sickle cell blood test but my doctor has insisted on full bloods , I had a call today to say the doctor wants to speak to me , I think it maybe that my iron levels are low they have been for years . Has anyone had their surgery with low iron or will my doctor say I can’t have my op ? It is next week and I’m really panicking x
I’m not 100% sure on this but they may prescribe you iron tablets and push your op back until they’ve levelled out as you’ve an increased risk of bleeding xx
Your iron levels needs to be more than 8 do you no why yours is ? I told my surgeon the other day in Jan I had blood transfusions due to losing lots of blood in an op and I’m on iron tablets he warned below 8 he won’t do the op but I’m above that now thank god x
You can help your iron intake by eating iron rich foods (leefy greens, broccoli, red meat). I’d start eating these foods asap and also drink fresh orange juice as that helps your body absorb the iron quickly xx
Thanks guys , my doctor said my iron levels are 9.1 the surgeon has said needs to be 10 so I no have a week to get them up I have iron tablets and stocked up on red meat and green leafy veg also orange juice not sure if this is going to make any difference in a week I’m also due on tomoz row which is a total nightmare bcoz I bleed fairly heavily so it’s not going to help . They a re goin. To re test at the hospital the mornings of my surgery if it’s not up or nearly at 10 I will have to postpone I’m so gutted x
I lost lots of blood in Jan in an op so had blood transfusions and since then I’ve had iron tablets really worried my iron will be low hoping I’m panicing over nothing though but I can hardly go to the loo 🙁 and when I do im struggling 🙁 don’t help that I’m on a heavy period as well
