Hi Ladies, do any of you have young children that you had to look after while recovering from BA? if so how did you cope? I’d love mine doing but have very little support in the way of childcare? I have 2 boys under 4

    Thanks!

I have 4 kids the older ones are 16,14,10 the youngest is 2 and the 1st wk I couldn’t do anything I thought I would be ok with the recovery but I actually found it harder than I thought. If it weren’t for my partner taking time off and my older ones I wouldn’t of coped had to even ask my son to wash my hair and tie it up,also relying on everyone to do all the jobs you do and not being able to do anything and them being useless at cleaning was hard mentally but least they tried lol but seems we all recover differently just make sure you have someone the first few days at least.

Hi Sarah. I was absolutely fine, I tried my hardest not to lift my 10 month old for the first 2 days. My boyfriend done all the nappy changing and stuff but other than that I have been fine with lifting her, getting her changed etc ?

I’ve started to think about this also, I have 3 year old twin boys who still like to be carried, luckily I also have 10 year and 9 year old girls so they will help out. Surgery on Tuesday, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a quick recovery xx

I don’t have children so can’t comment on that exactly but I wasn’t even able to look after myself for the first 4 days, never mind the thought of taking care of someone else. I was dosed up on pain killers and asleep or in pain for most of it x

Hi Sarah, I have a 5 year old and I’m currently 8 days post op. My op was on a Sunday and my boyfriend took over everything until he returned to work on the Thursday, although I was quite lucky and not really in any pain I could barely use my arms and you know without your arms you’re pretty useless unfortunately so without him I definitely wouldn’t of coped! I was how ever back to mumming the Thursday after my surgery, this meant doing school runs, cleaning up after my daughter ect however i was quite naughty and ordered in tea most nights for us as i wasnt quiet strong enough and partner works late shifts. Yesterday i was 7 days post op and it was the first time since surgery i was able to sort washing, bath my daughter and wash my hair all by myself so im getting there. I would say if you could get some help for the first week at least you will be fine. I personally wouldnt recommend you have it done if youre soley looking after your children Xx

So I’m a week PO now and feeling back to normal, I have been looking after the boys alone during the day since the day after the op, it’s been absolutely fine, I’ve not lifted them but everything else has been normal routine I’ve just taken it easier than usual. iPads have been a God send, they think its Christmas getting more screen time than usual lol x
