Was really calm when I woke and that continued all day (had had a major wobble 10 days before). Arrived at Highgate at midday, was greeted in reception and filled in some forms, waited about 15mins and a nurse came to show me to my room; told me how everything worked and bought the wi-fi password so could put my iPad on.
My hubby got offered tea or coffee; he ordered coffee and it was with us within 10 mins, with toast and jam!
Nurse came in and asked all her questions, asked me to do a pregnancy test, gave me my gown and lovely paper pants to change into, then left me to watch tv.
Mr Chantarasak came in at about 2, did his drawings and told me there were 2 people in front of me, I thought it would be at least a couple of hours so called my Mum and said she wouldn’t hear anything until about 6ish. Then I settled in to be beaten by my hubby at chess on the iPad and watch a bit of tv, was 3/4 of the way through may the best house win and another nurse came in and asked if I was ready and it was only 3 o’clock! I wasn’t expecting to go down for another hour!
Walked 2 mins to the anaesthetic room and laid down on the bed, then the anaesthetist came in and was talking away to me about my job, I’m a travel agent and he started asking my advice about where to take his family on holiday! It was all very random! My veins are horrendous and the first attempt to put the canular in failed and they had to try again, all the while I’m discussing beach destinations! The second attempt wasn’t much better and so had to be put to sleep by gas and then they put the anaesthetic in once I was asleep, I breathed in about 2 lots of gas and that’s the last thing I remember until the nurse woke me up.
I was in a lot of pain so they gave me liquid morphine, then the shivers set in and I had the lovely hot blower up the blankets.
Was back in my room by 5 o’clock, Mr C had been in to see me but I wasn’t back yet, but he told my hubby it all went well and he was pleased with the results.
My hubby had dinner and I slurred my way though the evening and felt as if I’d been on a v big bender! The nurses were great all night and helped me go to the toilet and bring water, didn’t sleep a lot, but wasn’t in pain.
Had toast in the morn and the nurse helped me into my macom and Was on my way home by 9.30.
Was a really good day and recovery so far good, haven’t taken any pain killers and just been in discomfort, not pain, except my back. Invest in a v pillow, hot water bottle and voltarol!
Sorry for the essay, good luck to anyone with ops coming up
