Hey everyone.
I’m absolutely gutted. My OP was cancelled today, due to my asthma. Covid new rules state that anyone with asthma needs to have a peak flow over 400. Mine was 330. Never had a reading anywhere near 400 in my life. So upset. But I hope it will go ahead early next year and I’m not left for a year or so. Feel confused. Also paying my second half of the procedure with their 0% finance, so I doubt I could get a refund.
I hope no one else gets this. Xx
Hey Girlie!
I am in the same boat as yourself… my operation was supposed to be on 5th November and it has now been postponed until 10th December. My asthma is mild but I do still receive pumps on prescription as a back up! I haven’t had my flow measured in an extremely long time and didn’t know that was part of the rule – I simply thought they just couldn’t operate on people with a medical history of asthma. I’ll give mine a measure tomorrow and get back to you! Very frustrating as I am also on the 0% finance scheme paying off the second half of the operation… Keep your chin up – my fingers are crossed for you. If you want any kind of support/to update me on how it’s going feel free to drop me a message on instagram, nice to have someone also in the same position as me! – @lottiedowlingx Xxx
When did you have to do the flo test?
I had to when inwent for my meet the surgeon. So about 5 weeks before op was due. X
How did you get on? I seen nurse a few days ago and they told me the same thing, although I don’t have any inhalers and mine was 350! Don’t know what I can do to make it higher !x
That’s really strange Gabriele! I also suffered with Asthma when I was a child and made them aware of this (also on record) but it was never mentioned again and I didn’t have to do a flow test when I met the surgeon. My surgery is booked for the 8th Feb xxx
Hey, has anyone else had their surgery cancelled altogether and their consult too? I’ve been told because of new regs and the fact I’m on a purple inhaler, my surgery can no longer go ahead 😭
Can I ask what inhaler you’re on? I’m on a purple inhaler, I’ve not heard anything about mine being cancelled yet? They’ve asked for a GP letter to confirm it’s mild/well controlled though. I’m worried now XX
It’s seretide I’m on. I got a call this evening just straight up cancelling everything and giving me a refund. My asthma is really well controlled and I blow a 475 everytime on a peak flow.
Oh really that’s what I’m on too, my peak flow is around that. I will call them tomorrow. How strange. Thanks for getting back to me x
Message back with updates! I don’t know whether to ring up and such, it really has upset me 😞
Hey, spoken to a nurse tonight. She said every hospital/Surgeon is different with what they’d accept as ‘ok’ to go ahead. I’m going to Preston first trust hospital and she’s said aslong as I blow around a 400 peak flow and my asthma is controlled there’s no reason it can’t go ahead. So I’ve no idea why others are having ops cancelled?! It’s very odd that there isn’t one rule for all. Xx
That’s where I was going! Who is your surgeon? I’m going to ring them tomorrow xx
How strange? It was mr Mahdi. I hope you get something resolved x
