Newbie! Please help! At what point do you pay the deposit?

Hi everyone

I’m a complete newbie so sorry if this is a daft question.

At what point do you pay the deposit? Is it at the very first consultation? Or a bit further down the line? I’m keen to get the ball rolling but don’t have 500 saved as yet!

I just had to pay deposit for my surgery date when i booked it and pay rest of balance before my op.

I paid the deposit to book the surgery date then the balance is due 21 days before surgery x
