I had my surgery booked with Dr Mounir on 15/02 at Preston, surgery was at midday so we had plenty of time to travel from Nottingham. It was about 10am and only 50 miles to go when we were involved in a car accident on the m6. Everyone was okay but my partners car was so badly damaged it wasn’t drivable. I tried everything to get a taxi the rest of the way or a hire car but it just wasn’t possible, the police also said we couldn’t abandon the car on the motorway.
I called the hospital and let them know, but Nottingham clinic didn’t open until 12 and my PC was on annual leave so I let Birmingham clinic know and spoke to my PC’s cover after 12.
I was told that if I gathered evidence of the incident including a police report I could possibly have the £500 rescheduling fee waved. I spent hours contacting the local police and my partners insurance company over the next few days, only for my PC to return to work and tell me that I DO have to pay £500! I’ve spent the past week in tears, what happened was absolutely out of my control.
I was badgered to rebook in the same week, or the week after when I had just been in a major car accident and my partners car had been written off so how would I have got there anyway?! I really felt like they had a February ‘quota’ to meet.
I had to be quite firm in telling my PC I would not rebook until March. (If the £500 had been waved I would obviously have tried to be more leanient)
So now I’ve been rebooked for March 17th at Preston. Have no current way for me and my partner to get there. Am so poor because of the costs. Feeling so deflated, overwhelmed, and not excited in the slightest.
