My experience with MYA until today has been pretty good, there have been a few bits of contradicting information and moments when I’ve felt they could have been a bit more helpful but overall I would have scored 4 out of 5 stars.
However, this has now all changed as today when I arrived for my second surgeons consultation (two weeks pre op and booked back in August) I find that they are closed!!! What is it with this company and booking me in for an appointment and surgery when they aren’t even open / available to do it! First it was my surgery which I booked and paid in July and three weeks later I was told the surgeon wasn’t available and now this!
Really starting to feel down now and am having serious doubts about this company. What if I turn up on the day of my op to find they’ve messed up; again?! I don’t think I could handle it.
I’ve emailed my PC and have had an automatic reply saying she’s on holiday until Tuesday… GREAT!
I’m so mad and upset about this all right now as it’s still very raw, my consultation was meant to be at 12pm…
Sorry for ranting but have to get it off my chest! 🙁 🙁
Where in the uk are you? Have you researched options of consultants and where you can go? I’m annoyed for you!
Hey @julia007
I’m near Bristol. I had rated MYA quite highly until today and it’s just this that has really put me on edge. I’m going to have a stern word with them next week and if I’m not 100% happy then I’ll be demanding all my money back.
My PC is the regional manager so I was confident that she’d be the one to set the example and do things right! I don’t actually know who was at fault here so it may not be her but she was the one I booked the appointment with and she suggested the date and time… had the clinic decided not to open they should have informed me.
Total mix of emotions at the moment 🙁 🙁
Your an hour and a half from me. !im going to another company but not sure your allowed to say on the forum. I did a lot of research so 100% happy with my choice. It’s such a huge decision to make and you want to feel happy and trust in the people who are doing the ba don’t you. I saw on another thread someone getting Ann op cancelled the day of the op which sounded awful hope your ok
@julia007 Oh really!? Let’s see what they have to say next week… I have total faith in the surgeon etc. but it’s just the disorganisation of the MYA staff that has resulted in this. I’ll be gutted if I have to cancel my op with only two weeks to go and I’ll have a fight on my hands to get my money back. Every option makes me stress out at the moment. I just need to speak with MYA.
That sounds terrible. Hopefully I’ve had my run of bad luck with them and things will improve….
Omg Imogen this is awful! How did that happen? Have u got the confirmed date on an email??? Terrible…. Hope u get it sorted! I have my op tomorrow hoping it all goes smoothly… Nervous now after reading this….. So weird, normally they r on the ball xx
@murph I have no idea, it was booked back in August and was a date and time suggested by my PC!
I’ve not got any written confirmation of the booking as it was booked over the phone… I do normally put everything in writing but because I was caught up on the change in op date I forgot. I won’t forget again that’s for sure.
Good luck with your op tomorrow, so exciting! This thing has put a downer on my op but hopefully after speaking with my PC I’ll feel better about it all.
I’m trying not to overthink it as I’ll make myself crazy so we’all see what they have to say – but a simple sorry isn’t going to cut it this time.
Xx
Oh no… sorry to hear about your experience, that sounds awful and really unprofessional:(. I hope you manage to get it sorted x
@imogen I was prepped ready for surgery and my op was cancelled due to mya messing up on the paper work not having the correct size implant down, spoke to mya while still at Preston and they then wanted me to pay another £1100 to rebook or lose all my money altogether, even though they cancelled they were not planning on giving me a refund at all, in the end I had to pay £100 to rebook they wavered the £1000 !!! Good of them lol. Following week my op went ahead at Preston can’t fault the surgeon or the first trust hospital, I would have wrote mya off if I could have got my money bk customer services is a completely let down, hope urs goes with out any more issues x
Wow first time I’ve heard something bad on here. Suppose it’s one of those things, could happen to any of us. Hope nothing goes wrong with mine, total skinto after buying pillows and bras haha couldn’t afford any extra bits!
@lucyr1983 that’s terrible! I’ve learnt from my mistake and from now on I’m going to double, triple check that I’ve put everything in writing to them.
@jp1204 My advance is make sure you have everything in writing and ask that all correspondence is in writing. Follow up all telephone conversations with an email confirming all action points / appointments etc. as then you have a paper trailer and a evidence to back you up! I usually do this but on this occasion I had forgot as I was distracted with my op date being changed three weeks after booking. Good luck with your op.
UPDATE:
I called MYA this morning and spoke to Gabrielle who is a PC but not mine as my PC is on holiday. She informed me that my consultation was rescheduled to take place at their Cardiff clinic but unfortunately the admin team couldn’t get hold of me… I queried when they had supposedly tried to get ahold of me as I had no missed calls, voicemail messages or emails from MYA and apparently they tried calling on 5th October but couldn’t provide me with a time. There is no other record of their attempt, although apparently this doesn’t mean they didn’t try, but just that they didn’t make a note of it… it’s all smoke and mirrors in my opinion!
Gabrielle did eventually say “all I can do it apologise” later in the conversation but only after I expressed my great dissatisfaction and concern with MYA’s service. I would have expected an apology straight away after finishing my opening statement about how they weren’t open when I turned up but I didn’t, I had to ‘work’ for it!
Gabrielle has booked a another surgeons consultation for me on the 3rd November (exactly one week pre op) at 6pm. Unfortunately the surgeon wasn’t available on any other day so I’m having to cancel my plans to attend this. However, Gabrielle did offer to ‘move things around’ so that I could have a more convenient appointment time but sadly that made no difference to my plans so I politely declined her offer.
I’m not feeling a much better about the whole situation but Gabrielle could only offer so much advice as she isn’t my PC. Let’s see how I feel tomorrow and what Fay has to say when I speak with her when she’s back from holiday.
Hope they manage to get more organised soon and reassure you
Hey Imogen, once u meet dr fiumara your bad experiences will melt away and she really is the best, it’s such a shame that they messed up and didn’t communicate with you enough but please don’t let it ruin the experience for u! The main thing is that when u r having ur surgery things go well….. I was 7am admission yesterday first on the table and I didn’t leave till 7pm because dr fiumara wanted to see my progression over the first 12 hours, she kept popping in and she was wonderful couldn’t fault her. The staff were all amazing….. It’s unfortunate that your pc messed up abit but it will b ur op date soon! And it will all be forgotten xxxxxxxx
Hey @murph
This was my second consultation with Dr. Fuimara which was to confirm sizes etc. so I was really worried that I wouldn’t get another appointment with her before my op – especially as there was a chance my op would be brought forward.
I’ve spoke with Fay (my PC) and she has made he feel 100 times better, she was honest and explained what happened and couldn’t apologise enough even though it turns out it wasn’t her fault.
Hopefully things will start to fall into place now and everything runs smoothly. Let’s hope I can get an early admission as that will put me in the best of moods.
Feeling much better – thanks for your support 🙂
How are you feeling post op? Xx
