I am just wondering why, with Mya, you see a patient coordinator at your initial consultation and not a surgeon?

The patient coordinator talks you through the cost, Any questions you have, asks what size you want to go and why. You try on sizes. You will also go through when you want your surgery etc and they book you in with the surgeon and the nurse.

So do you get a choice of surgeon before you go for your initial consultation or are you at the liberty of the PC? I had my initial consultation with my surgeon – went through all of that with me and could also answer any medical questions. It was also was an opportunity for me to get a feel for the surgeon and whether I liked him, that he understood what I wanted and that we had a mutual understanding. I can’t see how that happens if the initial consultation is with a PC ?

It is actually very handy having a PC – they are your personal adviser where you can say anything you feel. For example I did not like my first surgeon I met with MYA, he just didn’t feel right for me, I am sure he is good at his job but i just didn’t feel the right connection you know.. So I told my PC and based on my feedback she suggested different surgeon – met him and was 100% happy with him. So glad I didn’t have to tell the first surgeon that I didn’t like him you know..
The PC is almost like your personal assistant for the surgery – tell you everything you need to know, be aware off and you can literally ask any question – even if you think it’s silly.. (no question is actually silly when you deal with a surgery!)

    Good luck with your journey!

That’s the same as a surgeons PA really. I didn’t like the first surgeon I saw so just didn’t go back, I didn’t have to have any awkward conversations or anything. And the PAs of the surgeon I’m using are so helpful and friendly, so I guess it’s the same kind of set up except you do see the surgeon and not the PA for any of the consultations.
