Piercings during op Started by: Trudi Louise

I just want a bit of advise.

I’ve read in the notes that all piercings must be removed- I’m just wondering how strict they are on this? I know some places do vary and will say it in the notes but not always put it in practice.

The reason I ask is I have my tragus pierced and it’s near impossible for me to get out, let alone put it back it! I’ve tried many times but always had to go back to the piercer themselves.

Obviously if I get it taken out the day before my op, by the time I am well enough to go back it will have healed – so I’m wondering if anyone can advise if they just kept theirs in?

Op is booked for 18th March at Doncaster with Kazzazi

Interesting, I had general anaesthetic a couple of years ago for surgery on my hand, and the nurses let me put plasters over my ear piercings (conch, tragus etc). rather than take them out because they were done really tight and we couldnt get them undone.

I’ve since taken them out so they won’t be a problem with my BA but you should defs check with your PC

My PC said that any that can come out do need to come out and not to replace them with bio flex (I have naval piercing so was planning on putting bio flex in) ….. I asked her why & she said it’s because the metal can heat up during surgery! She did say though that if you have piercings that can’t come out, the nurse can cover them with dressings, so I’d just check with your PC. It can’t be that dangerous as I had two general anaesthetics last year for work on my teeth & they didnt make me take my naval stud out then, just my ear rings xx

Hello I had a Tragus and rook piercing that were really difficult to remove so I went back to my piercer and she removed them for me and put two plastic bars in instead which are safe during surgery 🙂 didn’t want to leave them without any replacement jewellery incase they closed up! Xx

I just put plastic jewellery into ones I knew would be too hard to put back in post op and that was fine x

I had my op last night and I have two rings at the very top of my ears which I’ve never taken out as I can’t aha, and a nose ring, they allowed me to tape them up as long as I signed a form consenting that it was at my own risk etc… x
