Hi girls,
I’m still researching but I’ve read you have to take out all piercing, no nails, fake tan….
basically I have a dermal piercing, I can unscrew it but I’ll still have the metal connector bit in me. What will happen with this?
Hey… Im not 100% as I also have one and would like to know but I reckon it all has to come out.
Ive been told by the nurse at my pre op all have to come out piercings and dermals too unfortunetly.
Ahh really?! I don’t even know if this will come out lol I have it for years.
What is the reason for taking them out? Like could I not hide it?
I had a piecing not dermal and they covered it with tape as I couldn’t take it out. Depends where it is sometimes they can cover it but you have to sign a disclaimer
it says in the paperwork somewhere about it interfering with the surgery equipment or something like that, not sure. I do have it in writing though.
Yh its super annoying iv had mine 6 years and had to take it out 4 times due to MRI and surgery. But its just for safety in case it gets knocked or caught on stuff while they operate.
Hey,
I only took off my bracelet and stuff. They covered my nose ring and the top of my ear with tape and was all fine, you just got to sign to say you’re happy for them to do that

I took my nails off, eyelash extensions and no fake tan but kept my piercings in x
Hey girls,
I saw my surgeon (Dr Jallali) on Tuesday & he advised me to have my dermal piercing removed prior to surgery as there is a burn/blister risk.
You CAN leave it in but you have to sign a waiver to say it was your decision to leave it in plus I believe it all depends on where the dermal is. Mine was literally in the middle of my chest so that’s quite close to the operating area meaning a higher risk.
I had it removed the same day & honestly it did hurt a bit but probably nowhere near as much pain as a burn/blister would cause.
My advice would be to have it removed & once you’re all healed up nicely put it back in again if you want to.
xx
@laura-jane1 I have a dermal anchor too, all I did was go and see my piercer and she actually changed my dermal anchor to a bioflex dermal anchor she get’s in. I’m not sure if every piercer get’s them but fortunately mine did and she said would change it back after my op xx
Hi girls thanks for all the replies!
Thanks for replying Risha, my dermal piercing is on ‘down there’ so do you think I would still need to take it out? Would I still be at risk of a blister or burn there?
Thankyou Michelle I will look into the bio flex dermal anchor
dunno if this helps at all but i read a thread a while back about the same thing and somebody suggested they go into a piercing shop, or where you got them done? they should be able to take them out for you and replace with plastic ones good luck xxxx
