Hi Girls,
This may be a stupid question and I know everyone is different.
I am looking at booking a late space early next year, so that can mean 1-3 weeks notice on your surgery date. I have been told you need to stop taking your pill a week before surgery, but I also told if you have your period on your surgery date this can effect things?
So, how am I going to stop my pill and not be on my period within the space of 2-3 weeks when i want to book a late space??
Any girls wondering this ? or even had their period when they had there op?
Thanks
XX
I was told I had to stop mine two weeks before!! In that case you would probs be best booking it at the latest two weeks before that way you can stop it the day you book haha!x
I was told one week before… two weeks isnt to bad but it doesnt always run like clockwork for me lol… could stop it take up to 5 days to come on then 5-7 on. Its cutting it close !! I wonder why they tell you to stop taking your pill, what happens if you dont and what happens if you on while you have your op xx
The pill is unfortunately a major blood clot causer, this is why it’s essential to not be on this during a surgery. 2 weeks would be ideal cause then the hormones are completely out of your system. Xx
Its two weeks before that you have to stop the pill. The reason behind this is because the hormones in the pill can clot your blood, just like we stop drinking alcohol two weeks before our operations because that can thin the blood.
And from what I’ve read on here, it doesn’t affect your surgery if you’re on your period at the time, you just have to make the nurses at the hospital aware.
For more reassurance, I recommend speaking to your nurse.
Thanks ladies, it makes sense now then 🙂
Ill speak to my PC about it before im booking xx
Hi hun i booked my op one month before for a late space the way i did it was to book it two weeks after i knew i would stop the pill. I normally get my period 3 days after i stop taking them and i am now on it and last about 4 days so by this week ill be period free and my op is next week tuesday 🙂 i would say dont stop it randomly stop taking them when you packet finish and get your period and after you should be ok 🙂 i have pain during them thats why i calculated and booked exactly two weeks after i stop taking them for me not have to worry about getting them on surgery or right after! Hope this helps 🙂
Does it actually matter if you’re on your period with surgery? I stopped my pill last month but due on in a few days and surgery is in 9 days, so hope it doesn’t matter if I’m still on? Alls I saw in pack and what PC said is that is to my pill? Xx
In terms of being on your period… I was half way through mine when I had my surgery! But it was put on my questionnaire forms that I was due on when my surgery was booked.
I’m not on the pill as I got sterilized x
I dont think it does sarah 🙂 well i guess you should inform them that you will be on it and from what i heard theyd tell you to wear a pad and no tampons!
Oh good thanks @Kim and @Dib77 I got all worried then thinking I’d end up being put back 🙁 lol xx
Thanks girls. Think I raised a good question☺
