Post Op Rhino Advice

Hi everyone,

So I’ve done it…I’ve booked in with Dr G at the start of June and got my consultation next week with him. I’m based up North but wanted to go with him as everyone raves about him being the best and I’m thinking if I’m paying so much money for this then I want to go with the best person possible.

My sister is coming with me to London but do you think we’d be ok to come back on the train? I’m going to book into first class and just hide with a scarf over my nose! It’s only two hours on the train and won’t be too busy mid week – just don’t want people staring at me!

Also, I am in Portugal the week before for my friends wedding…she’s getting married on the Friday and my op is on the Monday. Can I not drink at all for a week before or do you think I’m allowed one glass of wine?!

I think your not allowed to drink 48 hours before the op I didn’t drink a week before though.. Also I’m up north as well but I didn’t get the train I stayed overnight in a hotel and my mum and dad drove me home I was really tired the next day I couldn’t stop sleeping I think it was the anaesthetic but apart from that I was fine x

As far as I know they just state that someone has to be with you….. don’t think they stipulated how you get home, just make sure that someone is with you. Plus I wouldn’t worry about people looking at you on the train. When I went to get my splint off I figured should I take a taxi and spend £50 or just use my oyster…. I decided to go via the tube and cos my appointment was at 9.30ish… it was just coming out of rush hour….. and you know what? No one took a blind bit of notice ~ that’s what I love about travelling into and in London ~ they don’t care. Two weeks ago I sat next to a guy dressed as a kangaroo and superman (collecting for some sort of chartity no doubt) and still no one took much notice, cept really young kids…. so, I wouldn’t really worry LOL! 🙂 x

I’ve got my op on the 1st May and I live in North Wales so will be getting the train there and back, I was worried about people looking as well, but then realised they will never see me again and they wouldn’t know who was under the cast anyway. As long as your not at risk of being bumped badly and you have someone with you for 24 hours it should be fine x x and Jo your completely right some very eccentric characters in London at times, I think on the tube and trains people just care about getting to where they need to be not what is going on around them x x

Thanks everyone. I didn’t know if I was being a bit daft paying extra to go to London but it’s justified my decision even more that a few of you have done it.

You’re all right, I’ll never see these people again – so what if I get a few dodgy looks. I don’t think my sister would feel confident driving around London and the train actually takes half the time!

I think I’ll allow myself a few wines at the wedding but that’s it! My bank balance will thank me anyway! X
