Hello! I have my pre op on the 9th September, I’ve been prescribed anti depressants before (over a year ago), I’m not particularly worried about that as I’m confident my GP will give me the ok, I only took the tablets for about a week anyway because they didn’t agree with me. My concern is a little while ago I was prescribed some anti inflammatories (just stronger painkillers) for a bit of a constant headache i had. I didn’t even take the tablets in the end, but obviously they’ll still be on my record. Does anyone know if this type of medication could affect my op going ahead? I’ve seen loads about having to be 6 months clear of anti depressants but nothing really about other medication! X

I don’t think they can penalise people for every single thing ever prescribed or no one would get it done!! I have crohns and I’m on an on going treatment which is quite serious and with the OK from both my consultant and GP they let me have it! I think the best thing is to see your GP and discuss the letter and take it to your pre op! It’s sooooo much less hassle for MYA and yourself if you’ve already done the work! My gp wrote other than her crohns she has no other health problems at the moment and as long as she is fit and healthy at the time of said op then I have no reason to doubt she is okay for this procedure! In regards to the anti depressants I’ve heard some stories where even with a letter they’ve struggled and some where they’ve not even asked so I would just be well ahead and on the ball with it all as much as you can!! I really don’t think the head ache tablets will matter though! xxxxx
