Hey girls my surgery is all booked and I am really excited but also feeling really nervous. Especially really nervous about the anaesthetic. In my patient book I’m reading I have read the ‘side effects and complications of anaestheesia’ and it’s worrying me even more. I know they have marked up each side effect with very common, common, uncommon, rare and very rare but it’s just so scary. Was Anyone else that has had the surgery really scared? And are the side effects ok and manageable? Would really appreciate all you opinions and stories 🙂
I’m always really sick after anthesetic but I told them before my ba and they gave me anti nausea drugs in my canular, I was still sick but not half as bad as I normally am. I know it’s easy for others to say but try not to worry Hun, side effects are very uncommon nowadays, good luck for your surgery 🙂 xx
I was so nervous about the anaesthetic! It was the only thing that I had any nerves and doubts about. But honestly? It was totally fine! My mum gets really sick after GA and also I didn’t like the thought of not being able to wake myself up once they started putting the drugs in (weird right!)
But I went out so quickly and came round fine. In recovery I remember seeing the room through “drunk eyes” and I was crying even though I was totally fine..but being really with it and chatting away with my recovery nurse about his family and kids and how long he’d worked there like nothing happened! I didn’t go with MYA so had an overnight stay,
Got back to my room and napped for an hour, came round and had some sandwiches and cake, then just slept through the night and felt fine the next day! It does make you a bit teary but that’s all I’d say happened to me.
@kellydee @ba100118 thank you so much for your advise. Has definitely made me feel better. And Annie I’m too not going with mya so I also get an overnight stay 😀 which I definitely wanted as I have a little one and I’m a worrier lol. Xxx
My partner had Anaesthetic on Monday for hernia. He was like superman.. he woke up felt fine and drank as much as he could, ate a sandwhich had a wee just 30mins after.. 3hours later he left! He didnt have any side effects no sickness. I can only hope its like it for me too.x
@kymmy211215 even though I was sick after surgery as soon as I had a wee and a drink and a sandwich I could go home. I came back to my room out of theatre at 12.30 and I was on my way home at 3.30 🙂 x
Don’t worry about the anaesthetic – my friend is a doctor and she told me anaesthetists (not sure how to spell) are like the most cleverest doctors of them all and can solve any problem lol! When I had mine it was absolutely fine, I just felt sleepy for a few days after and also was quite bloated xxx
Thank you so much girls for reasuring me. It’s made me feel so much better and more at ease. Very very excited xxx
I was so nervous about having a GA as never had one before! When I woke up in recovery at 12:30 I just felt really tired but absolutely fine. Later on at 8pm I did get some sickness but that finished about 11pm and been fine since then! Everyone reacts differently to it but even though I was sick from it, it wasn’t a bad experience at all. Xx

I didn’t react well to the aneasthetic or the pain meds but the symptoms went away after a day or two. I mostly just slept through until I felt better. Hope that helps and try not to worry! Xx
@kymmy211215 sorry forgot to tag you in my reply above xx
If im honest i was extremely sick despite anti sickness intra op and again when i returned to the ward. I was discharged home with oral anti sickness but it lasted a couple of days. Codeine also made me terribly sick and dizzy even with the tablets so i managed without. Not a great reaction but it was all worth it!
