Hi Girls ….. I am booked in for closed rhinoplasty on 6th March. Im nervous and excited all in one at the moment but have a couple of things that I wanted know if anyone else had experienced or had any advice for me. How do you manage to wash your hair after surgery and keep the splint dry and not lean forwards?? No washing your face either in case you get the splint wet, so how do you care for your skin properly so that I don’t end up with a face full of spots after a week?!! Im expecting a whopping pair of black eyes for a week after too …. I’ve arranged for someone to do the school run so that I don’t scare everyone in the playground, but did the bruising go down after 10 days or so? If anyone has any advice, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks so much.

Hi, I’m 4 weeks post op with open septoRhinoplasty and I found the whole not washing hair the worst part! In my experience you just need to be prepared to look like crap and feel manky for a week! I went for a short walk round to shop with my boyfriend 5 days po just to get some fresh air and got more dirty looks and comments than I did with my big nose!! The nurse tried to wash mine before I was discharged then my mum did it couple times when I was sat in bath few days later. Aslong as you are careful you will be ok just try not to worry about it i ended up have shower on very low so could rinse it best possible.Good luck 🙂

Hi Nikki, I’d agree with Helen – you can’t wash your hair at all! I had a couple of cool baths when the splint was on but had to be so careful not get it wet. You wont want to tip forward as this is uncomfortable so just get ready to look a bit rubbish for a few days! Get some DVDs in and PJs on, you’ll be fine 🙂 Good luck with it all, its an amazing experience!

Thanks for the advice ladies, much appreciated. Manky hair, here I come! Did you just clean your face round he splint and tape? I look horrific without a bit of slap not being blessed with au natural beauty and all that. I guess it will all be worth it though for a better hooter!
    Thanks again everyone. X

Hey Nikki, hope you’re well 🙂
Re skincare, I’m 6 days PO and I’m ‘washing’ my forehead, cheeks and chin carefully each morning with a baby wipe to get sleep out of my eyes etc, and each morning and night I’m using a hydrating toner on a cotton pad over the visible skin (don’t get the pad too saturated though cos don’t want to get the plaster wet). I’ve been using Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic for this which is great, didn’t leave your skin feeling at all tight. Leave facial moisturisers and eye creams well alone until your splint comes off – on day 2 I thought I’d get away with patting a tiny bit of eye cream on my brow bone as it was peeling a tiny bit from being dry, and the cream travelled downwards overnight and about a cm of the plaster either side of my nose slightly lost its stickiness, so I’m having to tape that part down with the surgical tape they give you to tape the drip pad on. I don’t think that would have happened if I hadn’t used the cream. If your skin’s feeling a bit rough and looking dull, use a dab of exfoliating cream (one that’s not too runny) massaging it carefully onto your forehead, cheeks and chin (give the plaster a wide berth) and then wipe it off with a baby wipe and follow with a sweep of the toner to get rid of any leftover residue. That stopped my skin looking quite so dull, though unfortunately there’s no quick fix for the bruising lol, wish there was! You might be lucky and have no bruising left by day 10 but I’ll think I’ll still have quite a bit beneath my eyes, though it’s fading. Hope this helps and good luck for tomorrow 🙂 xx

I’m due for open septo rhino on 8th April, girls do you mind if I add you all please?
Sian your tips sound like great advice, I think baby wipes and a sweap of toner for cleaning the face will be the way forward. I usually use a clarrasonic skin cleansing brush, which works a bit like an electric toothbrush so think that will be a no no for quick a while.
Best of luck for tomorrow Nikki, let us know how it all goes..x

Hi “slb81” / laulau – thanks for you advice. I use the Liz Earle products so your advice sounds great, thanks so much. I spend so much time looking after my skin, it would be a shame to let it go to pot over the space of 2 weeks. It’ll be worth it though. I had to move my surgery to the 20th March, so ive got another 2 weeks to wait which is a shame. My husband had a lot going on at work this week, and it was going to be hard for him to be around to look after me and the kids, so I thought I better move it out a couple of weeks.

Laulau, I was looking at the Clarisonic skin cleaning thing on QVC last night! Whats it like? Is it any good? I am never sure what to believe when I find myself watching QVC late at night!!

Anyway, thanks for the comments and support girls. I wish you all the best of luck.

Haha I love QVC, just sitting here opening a box of Leighton Denny nail stuff, the delivery girl looked at me so funny with my cast and bruises haha. Love Liz Earle products, gutted not to be able to use the Cleanse and Polish atm!
Sounds like a good idea to put your op back even though you must be disappointed to have to wait a bit, definitely worth it if it means you’ll have less stress when recovering! I’ve been so surprised at how fine I feel though, compared to BA it’s a walk in the park! Guess cos it deals with bone instead of tissue and muscle so not remotely as painful 🙂 x

LOL! I have told my husband he’s not allowed to order anything for 2 weeks so that I don’t have to open the door to anyone – that is so funny!

My sister in law had her boobies done about 6 months ago, and she’s still not right even now. I am only going to get my nose done, reading some of the boob stories has really put me off. Might get the teeth whitening thing done too, but that’s not quite so invasive!

I’m driving everyone mad with how excited I am..hahaha
The clarasonic brush is flippin’ amazing. I can’t praise it enough. I developed rosacea about 18 months ago and nothing was clearing my skin up, even stuff prescribed by a dermatologist didn’t work. I got the brush last October and it has worked wonders, the dermatologist can’t believe it (especially as he took me off medication, so I was taking nothing for my skin).
My skin is really clear and feels in great condition. I get the odd breakout now and then…i think us girls do…but i even quickly venture out without make-up every now and then…something which I couldn’t do before….Can’t recommend it enough.
I also found coconut water really improved the condition of my skin and I drink that every day too…
Sorry I’ve just turned this chat into a skin care review…sorry girls, I’m obsessed about skin care.
Ahh Nikki, it’s probably for the best that you put the date back. You need to rest up as much as you possibly can after the operation you don’t want to run the risk of bumping your nose or affecting your recovery because you didn’t have someone around to help and it will be worth the wait, plus be nice for you to pop your feet up and have someone waiting on you ;o)

Yeah BAs have much longer recovery time, been pleasantly surprised with the nose surgery process so far 🙂 I’m doing Zoom whitening from dentist at the moment, it’s making my teeth a bit more sensitive so I’m doing it every alternate night rather than consecutive nights. Exciting.. New noses and white smiles here we come! 🙂

I had open rhino nearly 3 months ago the bruising went down in just over a week when i had the cast off i just had a few green bruises under my eyes the swelling was bad as i looked like i had a really fat face yeah i went out to the doctors and the dirty looks i got were amazing lol. My nose is still swollen and have been told by Mr Fallahdar it could last up a year and half, The recovery for my nose was a lot easier than the ba also i got my daughter to wash my hair 2 days after the op in a shallow bath laying down in it. LOOOOL I alos had my teeth whitened as well yes surgery is very addictive lol any questions just ask girls xx

Hey supercoops, how long did all the swelling on your face last? I’m 8 days post op from open rhino and I’ve still got swelling on my cheeks and between my eyebrows, my face looks so weird, I don’t look like myself atm lol!
Even though you say your nose is still swollen are you fairly content with how it looks at the moment, or is swelling quite obvious? I’m worried about that, don’t want to hate my nose for another year and a half, that would almost make me wish I hadn’t had it done! So nervous about cast off on Monday…
Mind if I add you hun? Yeah my BA was much more painful that this, the only thing that I thought really hurt for rhino was having stitches out, went up to the Highgate hospital yesterday to get them out and I had to get her to stop after 2, it was horrible, didn’t expect it to hurt so much! Did you find that bit painful? The nurse said they’ll take the remaining 2 stitches out on Monday along with my cast, hopefully the septum will have healed some more by then and it won’t hurt so much!! 🙂 x
