Scar itching

Hi all

I am 12 weeks post surgery and everything has been well for the past 7-8 weeks really.
At five weeks, I was intimate and was able to receive oral sex without any discomfort or problems. My labia was still a bit hard. I moisturised with E45 several times a day, and by the 6th and 7th week the hardness disappeared. I asked and it was noticeable, for those who may wonder. Then at seven weeks, I had penetrative sex with no problems at all. I had used tampons, against advise, quite early in recovery. I did this as there was no skin around my vagina that had been touched. My wounds were half way up/down my vulva.

The only issue I have experienced is the two scars either side of my clitoris, are still quite hard and for some reason they itch a lot on an evening. They are absolutely healed and are not painful in the slightest to touch. It is like any other flesh.
These scars were the worst during recovery and I often found the itching unbareable, having to lather with cream often several timesin the middle of the night. Luckily this has calmed down but often have to itch and put cream on, even now 3 months later. The other scars have not caused many problems.

Has anyone else experienced this?

P.S For those looking to have this procedure I have some advise

1. If you have a particular desire of how you wish to look, Dr I will probably not acknowledge it and do what he thinks is best. If you want something “pretty” and “tidy” and not fussed then you will be pleased.
2. Post surgery, try to sleep and not use the toilet. I slept several hours and didn’t use the toilet. Therefore the dressings stayed put for quite some time. My roommate used the toilet very quickly and ended up with a haematoma/similar. This may not be the reason but I have a feeling it is a contributing factor. Her recovery has been much slower than mine and was still struggling two months in.

When did your stitches start to fall out? And what week would you say it started to resemble the final look as I’m still very bruised and abit swollen I’m only 5 days post op though so that’s understandable. Would you suggest to wait the full 8 weeks or longer before having sex or were you fine?
You should probably contact your nurse about the scar itching they may be able to give you something to calm this down like a cream or something you can’t suffer in silence Hun, hope you get this sorted!x

Really sorry for not replying until now. My stiches fell out within a few weeks. I did pull a few out that were almost hanging out and had no problems with my labia at all. Now I am fully recovered one labia has not healed fully so it does separate into two at the bottom, this is only minor and isn’t an issue.

I had sex after 7 weeks, my incisions were not near the vagina so I didn’t feel i was at risk of tears. I would suggest to wait as long as you can, and check yourself alot. I used tampons throughout my recovery and noticed this wasn’t a problem and touched the skin to gauge how I was doing down there.

My scar only stopped itching about 2 months ago, I am not sure why. I did call and they offered to see the surgeon but as it happened I haven’t itched since
