Hi all. I dont mean to sound moany as i know i am sooo blessed that im finally able to have my surgery on 23rd (13 days!) Although im a bit shocked because i didnt know i had to give up the smoking… I didnt take it very seriously at first, until now ive read about it possibly causing capsular contracture ???? Finding this sooo difficult i could cry, its making me very, very emotional. I love smoking so much and its my one vice that gets me through the day and to not have it is absolute torture… Is there anybody else who was like this??? ???? When can i start up again??? Thank u in advance ××
Sorry about all the question marks, were meant to be emoji’s lol
I was so thankful I had already given up 4 yrs ago or it would have been a nightmare for me, I vape still tho and had to go onto 0 nicotine maybe try that it will take the edge off and give you something to do with your hands x x
I have my first consultation tomorrow and the 1 thing in the whole process I am absolutely dreading more then the op is the giving up smoking for the last 4 days I’ve tried cutting down from my usual 15 a day to having 1 every 3 hours my hubby has a vape and just a refill of 3mg and I’ve been using that to help and tbh it does help but I cAnt emagine me just using the vape and no smoking I’ve spoken to a couple of people who have had a BA on here and are smokers and they’ve used the vapes and then 24hours before surgery they’ve used none nicotine refill. Obviously after the op your that tired and worn down I don’t think I’ll feel upto having a fag anyway but there’s also risks to your recovery if you smile after for at least 2 weeks. Also ur quite poorly for upto 5 days after op so I’m sure it will be easy until then as I know when I’m poorly I clam for a fag but don’t have any as it makes me feel worse. I’m cutting down and the minute but once I’ve spoken to me PC tomorrow I’m going to try my utter hardest to have as less as possible as supposingly I’ve heard they can do a carbon monoxide test on you and if your over a 6 they can refuse you for your surgery and you could lose out on your deposit. I’m so glad I’m not the only 1 in the same boat as I thought I was the only one who’s going to really struggle so much so as much as I defo want to go ahead with it I’m doubtful with the smoking part! It’s so poop but it’s for our health and safety and just got to try see it as a month of your life without smoking isn’t a lot and the outcome could be that we stop all thogether although it easier said than done xx
If you only have 13 days to go have u cut down at all or has your PC not told u the ins and outs of the smoking part? Xxx
I had this problem as well so do not worry you are not alone! I switched straight from cigarettes to a vape, I started so high at 18mg and gradually cut down to the point where I’m having my op tomorrow and I’m on 0 nicotine, but now I’ve got the vape just for the habit of it xx
Casey when did u last have a fag then if your op is tomorrow ? Xx
Thank you all so much, had my last one on Saturday as was told to stop 2weeks before by the nurse, i booked my op fairly quickly so didnt have a chance to cut down/ quit as to be honest i had no idea you weren’t allowed to smoke! It says in the info they gave me you shouldnt smoke until fully healed; how long is that roughly? Finding it sooo tricky but i cant wait to finally get some boobies. Good to know im not the only one who finds it daunting, and thanks for the advice about the nicotine ×××
So r you on vapes at all?? I bet u can’t wait I’m hoping to get mine booked tomorrow if I’m happy with everything … xx
I think smoking just increases the chance of contractures and can slow the rate of healing, but to be completely honest anyone can get contractures anyway! My mum is a smoker and has had a few ops in the past, and in fact she never fully gave up only cut down. You could argue the stress and emotional torment of not being able to smoke is worse for your psychological health. I think as long as you don’t have one on the day (so they don’t smell it on you!) but cut down, that’s the best you can do. They are only advising at the end of the day xx
