Hi ladies,
Thought I’d share with you my day. I had my ba on Saturday dec 14th. I arrived at the hospital in Preston at 8am, as I was first on the list. I was shown straight to my room and asked to get changed into a gown, paper knickers and dressing robe and stockings. My nurse was a wonderful lady called Christine. She spend quite a while going through paper work, double checking everything and writing everything in my file. She took my blood pressure and temp. She told me that the ward doctor wold come and see me soon, then the anaesthetist would come and see me then my surgeon, Dr Mounir. She explained that when I come back from surgery they would start me off on water then tea and toast and then a meal if I needed/ wanted it. My husband was given a menu to order snacks and food. Please take ££ and you can buy wii fii code via paypal. Think he had a jacket potato! The ward doctor came and basically did the same questions and forms as the nurse and went through my previous medical history in a bit more detail. All the staff were very thorough. Then the anaesthetist came to talk about previous general anesthics and medical history and I was able to request that I have anti-sickness given at the same time. He said he do that as standard anyway.
Then dr Mounir came, went through the consultation paper work, consent forms, risks, took photos and then drew on me.
I had my blood pressure taken again and then I was walked to theatre. That all took about an hour.
Was given GA and drifted off into a wonderful sleep.
When I was woken up I was so cold and shivery so they put a blow heater thing under my covers and took me back to my room. The ward doctor and nurse help to slide me across this board and onto the bed. They gave me some extra pain relief as it was a bit tough to handle but once that started to kick in it was much more bearable.
The worse thing I thought was I was still shivering like mad (side effect form GA) and all you want to do is lie still!! The shivering lasted a good 30 mins and there is not much u can do for it. A while later I asked for some more pain relief ( I have a moderate pain threshold!) so my lovely nurse organise a tramadol and I started to feel much better. I didn’t feel sick or dizzy at all.
I then ate my tea and toast and napped for a bit. I was constantly monitored and checked. Then I had my sports bra put on. I took 2 sizes and Christine decided which one to use as she is soo experienced. She then went through my meds and how to take them and advised to get some nurofen on the way home and to take co-codamol then 2 hours later nurofen then 2 hours later co-codamol ( but check you don’t exceed your daily amounts!) she explained about taking the antibiotics the following day.
I went to the toilet and napped a little more. Then dr mounir came to see me. He checked me over and was happy so my husband helped me to get dressed and we were on our way home. We left at 2.30pm!
I had a travel neck pillow I bought from a £ shop last year for the airplane and used that on the way home. My husband arranged my v neck pillow and cushions on the bed and I had a little nap. He set his mobile to ring every 2 hours to give me my meds. I had been constantly drinking my sports drinks and started to take my arnica tablets. By 8pm I was ready to move to the sofa, propped up, to watch xfactor and eat a little tea of steamed veg and grilled chicken. I haven’t had any pain since late afternoon. – it’s more an uncomfortable and tight feeling.
Hope this helps xxxx
