So at my pre-op I was positive for MRSA in my nostril, I went on antibiotics for a week and was told I’d need to be tested again after them to see if it’s cleared.
I had my appointment for new swabs on Monday and thought that was that if they come back negative. Apparently not, I got a call earlier, the lady had been on annual leave. She said that I would need a further 2 tests even if this one I’ve just had comes back negative and they need to be a week apart so it’s most likely my op will be postponed. I’m seriously annoyed about this because I was never told it would be three whole separate tests! She also said they have to be a week apart, so there’s absolutely no chance my op will go ahead on time. I didn’t have any issues with when my pre-op was booked for so why don’t they take this into consideration. My mum is a carer and really struggles to get time off so now I’m absolutely screwed. I seriously just want to break down in tears.
I’m worried about this too!!! My pre op is only tomorrow and my op is next Friday so if I test positive mine won’t go ahead! 🙁 so annoying xxx
The thing is they told me there would be plenty of time to get it sorted in time when I tested positive. There clearly wasn’t enough time, that’s what I’m annoyed about. I had to book this date for a reason 🙁 x
That’s so frustrating! Is there nothing they can do?! I’m so worried 🙁 xxx
My pre op is tomorrow too! Also worried about mrsa.
Hopefully you can get it sorted in time 🙂 xxx
Hey @charlottelily93
I’m really sorry this is happening for you! It is my fear that something like this goes wrong before my surgery and, like you, rearranging is near impossible! How long after your post op did u find out your results? I really hope you get all sorted so you can hopefully have your op soon. X
I had my pre op Tuesday, how long after the swabs do we find out the results? I dont think the nurse told me xx
Hey Hun, I find this really bizarre, I work in a cardiac hospital and we screen patients for mrsa and mssa, if they come back positive we just give them a nasal cream which is used for 5 days and a hibi scrub to wash in twice a day and we don’t re swab them unless they haven’t had surgery in a certain time limit! And this is people who are coming in for open heart surgery! So I find it very strange they want to swab you so many times! I can’t imagine you would come back positive again in a short space of time. Hopefully it won’t affect your op date xx
Thank you girls 🙂 I received a phone call after I’d posted on here to sort things out. I’m now having swabs done today and then next Thursday too. So everything should be done in time for my surgery unless one comes back positive, but my first swabs came back negative so hopefully this is really unlikely! xx
