When I had my dressings removed at 9 days (it was a weekend so no 7 day slot), the nurse said my M&S zip up front sports bra was sitting on my wound site and so I had to find an alternative for another week or two until they were more fully healed. She put just steri-strips back on and sent me home with some too in case I felt like I still wanted to use them for another week or so, telling me I could shower in a few days and the steri-strips she’d put on could come off then – easier when wet. Pat dry, and apply fresh steri-strips.
I bra-shopped, went home and tried them, but now the wounds just had steri-strips on, by last might I was much more sore around the incision sites, as if the wounds were being irritated, So it got me thinking, they’re covered 24/7, it’s not like they’re being left to get air to heal, so why not put some dressing back over the steri-strip. Luckily had something suitable in medicine box and so got my b/f to put them on with some surgical tape. Have to say I think that’s worked really well, so I’ve rambled on and made a long story out of it, (sorry lol) in case it helps anyone else. A combination of better bra (though it’s not squishing my boobs as much so is it really better?) and some soft dressings helped me to get my best sleep since the op last night – a whole 6 hours. Woooo hooo. Trip to chemist today to get some more wound dressings in.
Also if anyone reading this knows of any reason why I shouldn’t be doing this, please let me know. but it made logical sense, as I say they’re covered by at least a bra anyway…? xx
