Stopping the Pill Pre Op

My op is now in 1 months time (30th June) had my Pre Op today and my nurse said i need to stop my pill 4 weeks before and 2 weeks after. But I’m midway through and don’t know if its better to finish the pack then stop (will be about 3 weeks before my op when i finish) or just stop as soon as its 4 weeks before! Ive been on the pill 3/4 years now and don’t really want to mess up my system! Any advice from anyone else who was told to stop their pill

I just stopped taking it when they said (which was mis pack) I had my pre op 2 weeks before. Don’t know if it’s down to stress and the trauma of the op but I never had a bleed either. I’m nearly 3 weeks post op now. Xx

I really really didn’t want to stop taking mine, and I stopped 2 weeks before. I was planning to stay off it for 2 weeks after as recommended, but I regret coming off of it at all. I went back on it 4 days post op because I couldn’t stand it any longer – my skin was getting bad. So I went back on it 4 days post op and I’m POD10 now and my skin is good again. Personally, I regret even coming off mine in the first place. But then again I think MYA only recommend it because theres a slightly increased risk of DVT. But lots of places don’t require you to come off of it at all. xx

Aah ok thank you so much! I don’t want to stop mine at all really my pill helps with my skin and helps as i get low iron a lot. I might only stop for the shortest time possible, I asked the nurse if I could keep taking it and she said no that id have to stop. My mum said that aswell she said any other surgery they wouldn’t tell you to stop taking it beforehand @harrietelizabethb xx

I had all my consultations two weeks before my op date (I’m from Scotland so they did that so I didn’t need to travel too much) I was advised to stop my pill by the nurse but didn’t due to the reasons I take it in the first place. On the day of my op the nurse asked if I had stopped it, I said no because the surgeon didn’t ask me too and everything went ahead fine. I just made sure I stayed as active as I could to prevent any blood clots etc and kept the stockings provided on for 4 days. X
