Due to have BA with Dr Andrea Giannitrapani today at MYA Fitzroy. Admission time of 9am, taken straight to my room on arrival, which i was sharing with another girl also having a BA with him. Nurse came in and gave me my gown, stockings and slippers and I was told to take a pregnancy test in the bathroom. All piercings removed etc. After an hour and a half, a nurse came in and told me I was third on the list and took the other girl down to theatre. Blood pressure and temperature taken and handed all post-op leaflets.
At 1:30pm (4.5 hours later), a ward nurse came into my room and told me that DR Andrea Giannitrapani had been taken ill and is cancelling all further operations for today and the near future. I was told that my Patient Coordinator would be in touch regarding further op dates. However, I have already been informed that Andrea is fully booked until the new year so unsure how this will be resolved.
Rang MYA Birmingham Clinic and managed to speak with Nicole at Reception who informed me that my PC was waiting for further information from DR Andrea and would ring me when she could. It’s now 5:40pm (4 hours later) and I haven’t received a phone call or email from anyone at MYA. In my personal opinion, I would rather my surgeon came and explained the situation to me directly. I understand that his illness could not be helped, however when so many girls are booking transport, accommodation and time off work, then I feel like a direct apology and attempt to resolve in a timely manner would go a long way.
I don’t think that’s appropriate at all and I would be absolutely fuming. Understandable that Dr Andrea is ill but to not have any phone call from anybody in such a lengthy amount of time. I really hope you get things sorted babe xx
I’d be furious, yes you can’t help being ill and you’d rather not someone do a half hearted job. But the way they didn’t let you know straight away or offer an alternative is awful! I hope they give you compensation for time and money wasted as well as the emotional stress of waiting to have surgery then it not happening. Let us know what happens, hope you’re ok! ???? Xxx
Id be devastated if my surgery was cancelled on the day- and no contact is very poor.
Although to be fair to the surgeon- it must be serious for him to walk out of theatre. If the surgeries are cancelled for the forseeable it could be a loss in his family etc. I dont think a personal apology is appropriate, but its poor that customer services are not keeping you up to date.
Update: I had a phone call from my Personal Coordinator later that evening and was told that she had never experienced this with DR Giannitrapani before and that he was extremely sorry. MYA have moved my BA to the next possible date, Thursday 12th October, and I’ve been given a courtesy driver that will pick me up from my home address and take me directly to the Preston Hospital instead. Myself and my chaperone receive a free night stay in a hotel and will be driven back to my home address the following day. Luckily I’ve managed to rearrange my holiday dates at work so will just postpone the 2 weeks recovery time I had booked off. Bit of a nightmare but obviously couldn’t be helped!
Glad itโs been sorted for you Hun, must be a nightmare rearranging everything! Fingers crossed for 2 weeks time! Xx
I am booked in for that date too so will look out for you xxxx
