    Hi all,

Im 7 days post op and noticed on the paperwork it states the tape can be taken off at 7 days post op.

My surgeon was abit picky and said that sometimes it isnt long enough for the stitches to heal. He advised me to come back at 10 days post op but im back at work and dont live in the area.

I cant get any more days off work and had to book in for 14 days PO to get the tape removed which is ages.

But am starting to get woken up very early in the morning with the tape peeling and im wet underneath probably from sweat. My skin is very bumpy and incredibly itchy causing me to scratch quite roughly.

I work with a nurse who could remove my tape for me and put fresh bandage on to still keep everything covered until my 14 days PO.

Did any of you have yours removed early??
And was it removed by anybody other than the nurses where you had the surgery done??

I’ve just come on to ask a question about the tape!! I had my post op clinic appointment with a nurse at MYA Birmingham at 9days Po due to the bank holiday last week so the first dressings were on for that long. At the appointment the nurse took the dressings off and underneath were long steri strips along the incision. She took these off too and cleaned the incisions with saline solution. She then put 3 more steri strips along the incisions on each side and said I could shower normally etc but to dry them with a hairdryer after. I’m 2 weeks PO today so could potentially take the steri strips off. It I’m not sure I want to!! Could you ring your clinic and ask? I don’t think you should leave the incisions uncovered at 1 week PO as you’ll have finished Antibiotics so won’t be covered by them for infection and also the scans that are healing won’t be protected so could rub on your bra and make the scarring worse? I’ll post a pic of what I’ve had on mine for the last week if it’ll help x

I was going to wait approximately 10 days and then ask the nurse im working with to remove the tape only because it is making my skin itchy and has gone red bumpy!! I was going to get her to put fresh bandage on instead to keep it covered but not touch the stitches!!

I’m sure that would be absolutely fine xx

Oh ps, this tape it directly on the incisions (they had started to scab over which is why I’m scared to pull them off!!) but all my stitches were internal, couldn’t see anything at al!

    Hello!

Sorry it’s a little late – I’m 10 days post op, I was supposed to have my dressing change on Friday (7 days PO) but changed it to yesterday due to work, all they did was take the Steri strip off and replace it with a big surgical plaster over each scar, I can now shower and the nurse said that after 2-3 days the plasters can come off and I can bath etc apply saline cream.

I was exactly the same as you and couldn’t really have much more time off work, the appointment was a bit of a waste of time and I guess I could have done it myself.

    Hope this helps!

Hi girls just wanted to know who your surgeons were and how much tape/ dressings you had…I’ve seen so many different techniques from small plasters over incisions to lots of tape strapping people up xx

    Hi again,

I didn’t go with MYA but my surgeon was Dr Reza Nassab.

I had Steri strips and plasters over the incisions – no strapping ?

    Xx

I had my bandages and steri strips removed 6 days post op as that was what the surgeons recommended ( I didn’t go with Mya) upon having them off the nurse said one incision was healing faster than the other and that I needed to keep steri strips on my right one for another couple of days. She sent me home with steri strips, saline solution and cotton surgical pads so that I could swap them myself without having to keep coming back.

I don’t see why you or your nurse friend couldn’t do it for you ☺️ It’s easy enough
