    Hi everyone,

I’ve had my first consultation after years of planning so now it’s all starting to feel real! I’m really excited but just don’t know how to approach telling work?

I’ll be booking 2 weeks annual leave so that’s no problem but I work in a very male dominated office and it’ll be obvious as I’ll go from being flat chested to suddenly having boobs! Just wondering if anyone has any advise for telling my manager? I’ve told friends and family but find work the most awkward one!

    Thanks all!

Hi Gemma. I’m very much like you. I work two jobs, one in IT which is very male dominated and another at a pub. I too booked two weeks off and the only reason I told my employers was purely because both of my jobs have elements of manual work involved and even after two weeks off I know I’m likely to struggle abit at work. You don’t owe anyone an explanation as to why you’re doing it but I simply told both my mangers that it was very personal and confidential and that they needed to know because it might impair my work slightly. In terms of others at work you need to accept that they may notice and have opinions but you’re doing it for you so ignore that! I’ve told most people at work so it softens the blow a little bit! Both my bosses were great. Good luck x

I’m also utilising the most of my padded bras over the next few weeks so the increase in size isn’t as noticeable hahaha x

Hi Gemma, I’ve also booked 2 weeks leave and have told my manager that I am having an operation and that I may not be able to do certain things for a few weeks after I return. No one has pushed for what I’m having done but I’m sure it will come up at some point so I am planning on saying it’s a gynecological procedure and the conversation should end there! I’ve been wearing a “2 sizes bigger” bra for the last month so I’m hoping that the change will go unnoticed! I work with some quite judgmental people so haven’t felt as though I can share, however, every workplace is different!

Thanks both! I think I’ll be upfront with my manager but think I’ll wait with some of the people I work with! I’m sure I won’t mind once it’s done it just feels awkward to bring up before! That’s a good point about things like push up bras, I wear a lot of looser clothes at work so I might try wearing a padded bra until the surgery to make it seem like less of a leap aha! x

In all honesty I went from a A TO A DD with my first op and no one noticed a difference with clothes on xx

Oh wow! I think it always feels like a much bigger thing in my head than it will actually be to everyone else! What size implants did you go for Kassie? X

Good question! I’ve had a look online about this and someone mentioned to have a ‘decoy’ – so when you’re back at work change something else about your appearance, like a hair cut or colouring or makeup style etc… It diverts the attention from your chest and people who notice a difference – but can’t quite put there finger on it, will assume you look different because of THAT rather than a BA 🙂 (try to wear similar clothes that are looser so the attention is elsewhere) xx
