The Pill!!??

Just read something a while back on this forum which said that you should stop taking the pill for, and after surgery??? I’ve taken it for 6 years, I can’t just stop?! I’m hoping I mis-read or misunderstood! Help x

My nurse told me I had to stop the pill 4 weeks before till 2 weeks after I had my op yest so I have 2 weeks till I can take it again xx

My nurse said if was taking it to stop 6 weeks beforehand. I have the implant in my arm and she said it was fine to keep that in though as I was worried I would have to have that removed before surgery xx

omggggg guys I can’t believe I wasn’t told this! 6 weeks is a long time to just cold turkey on my hormones! I’m panicking now!! xx

Oh no I’ve not been told this I don’t think lol I’ve only got 2 weeks until surgery lol X

Oh, ok that’s given me hope, cause if it was urgent, I assume everyone on the pill would’ve been explicitly told this! Phew! thanks Emma lol x

I told em all along I was on the pill n it wasn’t until my pre op my nurse was like ur not aloud to take the pill so u must stop now till 2 weeks post op I found it weird n panicked cos I’ve been on it 2 years xx

I’ve had my pre op today and she hasn’t mentioned anything but I’ll ring and check lol xx

I just rang up and she said that its for two weeks before and two weeks after, but it seems like a lot of people just were never told and just never stopped taking it?? I don’t want to stop taking it! Sophie did you get any weird symptoms from stopping the pill for a month? I did tell them all along that I’m taking it D: Emma I hope they don’t make me, but apparently you do have to 🙁 xx

I was told 3 weeks before and 2 weeks after surgery but I have the implant in also I think it depends what pill you are taking with regards to how long you need to stop taking it for hun xx

There’s one surgeon who doesn’t tell you to stop and don’t mind you taking it. I’m not sure which one now tho. Not much help I know but he is with mya. So makes you think doesn’t it xx

Hi they asked me to stop taking the pill and I flatly refused, my surgery went ahead and no implications xx

I come off the pill caused me to bleed like 3 times this month can’t wait to start again xx

Ok being totally honest, I really didn’t want to come off the pill when my nurse told me because it messes up my hormones and periods massively, so I spoke to my PC and she said loads of people just stay on it for that reason and also a lot of people get pregnant while they’re off if. So I kept taking mine I never stopped and I’m fine. They tell you to stop because it increases your risk of deep vein thrombosis – I asked the nurse what the risk was and she said 1 in 10,000. So if you do really want to keep on taking it Hun I would – well I did! Haha xx

I think i’m gonna refuse it too – It messes me up so much, and my periods, and my skin gets so itchy and ughh! Ahh ok, I’ve heard of the pill increasing Deep Vein Thrombosis but i just can’t risk the havoc that would ensue if I stopped taking it 🙁

I’m taking Yasmin – hopefully if I tell them that and that it messes me up,, they won’t force me to.

It does increase the chance of dvt that’s what my nurse said anyway, when I told her I had the implant and checked if I needed to have it removed before surgery she said no and to wear those sexy stockings they give you for 72 hours after surgery so that’s what I did xx

I’ve just spoke to my nurse and yep need to stop taking it! Got my op next week as well lol X

Dang it. Ok. Thanks guys. Guess I’m gonna have screwed up periods for a while then 🙁 xx

@harriet me too I need mine coz I have hormone problems n it messes my periods right up so I’ve just warned my fella he’s gonna have to be extra nice to me or I’ll end up going psycho on his ass lol X

its for blood clot reasons why they recommend you to stop it it less risk if u stop taking the pill there just extra careful I had the same worry and have non stop bleed for 3 week thrn stop for my op day it was like my body know lol just be extra carful I had my op yesterday xxx

I had my pre op today and been told to take my pill as they dnt like to have there patients on there period , not with mya xx

Oh really Kel?! I hope they say that with me!!! I have my pre op wednesday and my nurse sounds absolutely lovely, hopefully i can talk to her xx
