Hi ladies my op is a week and a half away. Any tips or things I can buy to help with recovery?. I also have 2 kids and I’m stressing about not being able to do things. How long until you begin to feel more ‘normal’? X

Hi @louise. A week and half to go, u must be so excited.
The night before my op I went and done a big food shop so the cupboards and fridge were stocked up with everything me and the kids would need.
Invest in some ice packs, they will save you trust me couldn’t live without mine.
Get a pack of straws I could barely hold a bottle of water without pain at first.
Do you have help with your kids? How old are they? Mine are 5 and 12 and although the aren’t really little still needed help doing stuff for them I couldn’t even run my youngest a bath or wash her hair for almost a week so make sure there’s someone there to help you even for the first 4-5 days at least after that it will get easier and your be able to do a lot more yourself.
Spring clean your house/change bedding by the time it all needs doing again you should be able to do it yourself if need be.
Hope I haven’t scared you lol this is just from my experience and you may find your absolutely fine and able to do everything straight away. I wasn’t and these things helped loads. I’m now 2 and half weeks post po I’m back to work, back to driving can do everything on my own and they first week of being completely unable is a distant memory.
Good luck for next week Hun can’t wait to see your progress xx

Hi Louise, I’m 8 days post op. The only thing I’ve needed to buy especially for recovery so far is my Vpillows for sleeping. I bought 2 and use both as well as a ton of others. Sleeping is difficult and I still find it hard sleeping sitting up now.
I have a one year old and for the first day home I was in agony, and was like this for first 4 days at least. Do you have anyone to help you with the kids? My partner took the week of work so looked after the baby, there is no way I could if done it otherwise as you need to make sure you don’t lift. Today I’m starting to feel kind of normal. I drove to drop the baby at nursery (only a mile away) and actually felt ok. I’m finding bending over the bath to bath her quite difficult though.
My main advise to you is to try and rest as much in your first week as you possibly can. It’s so easy when you have kids to naturally want to do stuff for them but try and chill as much possible as in your 2nd week you will feel a lot better . Also keep on top of the painkillers they give you, I have taken my ever 4 hours and they do help, although I stopped taking the cocodomol as they made me constipated.
Hope all goes well for you, not long to go now. Good luck xx
