    Morning ladies.

So go my BA tomorrow and I know that there is a rule of “no piercing” BUT I have had my tongue pierced for about 4 years now and I don’t really want to be taking it off as I am positive that the hole will close within hours of taking it off. Anyone know of a way I can go about it? Maybe a plastic piercing instead of metal?
    Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

    Hey chick
My friend had her boobs done and had to take her tongue piercing out simply because of the thing that goes in your mouth during surgery! Wouldnt want that to get caught! But ask your nurse you never know ๐Ÿ™‚ xxx

Hi hun. Yes you will have tube in your throat to maintain your airway whilst under anaesthetic. ..dont worry you wont remember it being thre!!! Thats why I I suggested throat sweets to suck on later as it can make it a bit sore. Ive never known them to apply tongue piercings to be kept in, best to remove it judt before you go down to theatre. All these things we have to consider!!! C u tomoz xx

The reason you have to remove piercings during surgery isn’y for tubes ect all though they can get the way! All the machines they hook you up to can cause the bars to heat up, metal bars result in burns and some plastic/acyclic bars can melt inside the piercing. You could require surgery to remove the melted parts, not fun! Your best bet is to remove it last min and put it back in first thing, at 4 weeks the channel your bar does in to should have started to form, given surgery is around an hour you should be ok, if you can get it back in, visit the place you got it done, they will push a blunt needle through and re open the channel to insert the bar in to. ( I am a body piercer) hope this helps!

I agree with the metal heating up..especially if they are using diathermy, but the anaesthesiologists Ive worked with wont even allow plastic tongue piercings in case they become dislodged during intubation and compromise a patients airway…so it does have something to do with those tubes! ๐Ÿ™‚ x ( if it heals over you will have to visit Kaydee and have it redone lol…but Im sure it won’t) xx
