I have been to a few consultations at 3 different places and recommended different things!!! I go to the gym a lot and use weights (I’m petite but toned) One surgeon said I have a lot of breast tissue and because I go to the gym I should have overs. Another surgeon said I don’t have much breast tissue and should go under.
I’m 5″7, size 8, roughly weigh 9st, size 32B. Anyone who could help me/pass on some advice about unders and the gym etc would be greatly appreciated!
xx
Hi katie, im kind of in the same situation! I do a lot of bodybuilding, I have pretty much a flat chest and I got told to go under the muscle due to the amount of breast tissue to start with. People have said on here that they have been advised to go with overs incase they can’t ever train upper again. I’m meeting another surgeon at the end of the month so I’m going to see what he says. I couldn’t imagen not being able to train upper again. When’s your op?
Hi Katie. I had unders but my stats are 5’4 size 6 and I was a 32A with very little breast tissue I had no option but to go under the muscle and the recovery is completely different. It’s tough and I couldn’t imagine going to a gym at 3weeks post op! My advise would be to see one more surgeon and go for a majority descision! It’s important to be 100% and if you’ve had two consultations that said different things I’d research one more that has fantastic reviews and give them a go.. if you can go over the muscle I’d do it. Just because of you being active and athletic
Hi Gemma,
Thanks for your response 🙂 I’m not a bodybuilder by any means and I don’t do heavy weights – been properly training for a few months and being a female I’m naturally weaker on my upper body but I do train shoulders, back and arms regularly, chest is rare for me. At the min I’d say 9kg for shoulders, about 30kg for my back so nothing massive! But as time goes on I hope to get stronger etc but I know I’ll never be doing anything massive so I don’t know whether unders will even have an impact. I also have a friend who went under and she does pole dancing and said the implants feel a little weird at times and her surgeon has done unders on many bodybuilders and they’re absolutely fine! My friend said shes actually stronger after her BA and she only had her op in March. The surgeon who did hers and who told me unders said to me I’ll be 20% weaker when chest pressing but didnt mention anything else so u might be ok! And chest press isnt something i do often or heavy weights for that matter. Every surgeon is different and I think its just about finding the one u trust! Not got an op booked yet but I’m thinking around Sept time as I know dates are available then. Im definitely going to meet a few more surgeons and go with the majority! Best to be safe
Hi JOC87,
Thank you for your response 🙂 it’s such a tough decision to make because they say unders are safer and can look more natural cos they have the extra support from the muscle but in the same sentence I don’t want to not feel comfortable going to the gym because I love it and it makes me feel good about myself. I don’t mind being weaker as long as I can train to a decent level. I’m not muscular by any means as the weights I use aren’t mega heavy due to my size and also because I haven’t been training religiously for that long. I will take your advice and see another few surgeons and see what they say!
Hey, I advise to see another surgeon. Surgeons have their preferred method for them which is to go under the muscle. However, if you train and train muscle groups like chest ect. Over time your implants will seperate as your muscle builds and slowly get pushed out towards under your armpits. I suggest to go over the muscle as this doesn’t happen, they stay in their little pockets. I had the same question the surgeon I went with said this information at the top. It’s up to you and whatever feels comfortable but I recommend overs
Hi, I go to the gym 3-4 times a week currently and having unders as I don’t have enough breast tissue for overs. My surgeons told me after 6 weeks I can go back to the gym as normal. He has said there will be slight movement when the muscle is flexed but long term they are likely to stay in place as they are held in place by the muscle
Katie,
I’m hoping for an op in September too, can I add you? I’m not a mya patient but I’m meeting a surgeon on the 29th and hopefully he will be the one ? I’ll be asking him loads so I can get back to you about this? I reckon under the muscle will make you weaker to an extent- definitely post op but after recovery you can work on building your strength up again and yes probably become stronger. Love hearing how your friend became stronger and ones a pole dancer, that takes some upper body strength ? Its definitely something worth asking about. I have also heard about getting a gap in between your boobs too Training chest after going under the muscle. You could probably just train chest once a week or add a few chest exercises here and there in an upper workout. Id definitely meet another surgeon see what they say and weigh up the odds xxxx
