Hi, does anybody know why we’re not allowed to wear underwired bras?, is it just the irritation to the incisions or is there another reason? Xx

Ohhhh I see, I had to have some stitches removed at my so wee check so have to wait abit longer to bath exercise and wear normal bras again.
I asked about the underwiring as I am nervous too and the nurse said that at the start it may feel uncomfortable as you’re used to know wearing them now but the reason you can’t wear them pre six weeks is because they would rub on your scars and get warm cause sweatiness etc xx

Hi Teresa, I had my 6 week post op check up yesterday ( am actually 7 weeks post op though) and the nurse told me I can wear underwires at 8 weeks. She also told me to make sure the cup is big enough for the implant so they’re not too cramped in. Hope you’re healing well xx

Hi girls, when is the best time to get measured? My friend got measured at m and s two days po for a new sports bra! When does all the swelling stop so you know you’re the right size? X

Aw, glad everything’s going ok Teresa. I know how you feel, I’m a bit scared of wearing underwires too in case I harm my precious boobies! I got measured last week and my jaw dropped when the lady said 32F. As the non wired ones only went up to an E cup I’ve had to buy a couple of maternity bras to tide me over til I can wear underwires! They are really nice though considering they’re maternity ones but I wouldn’t say sexy lol . Mine are levelling up now and all the discomfort in my left one has gone which I’m relieved about but I have some rippling appearing which hopefully won’t get any worse ( its doesn’t show in a bra just when they’re let loose ). Enjoy your bra shopping and take care xx

Hi No0108, not sure, think I’m going to leave it another couple of weeks as mine just seem to be settling (am just 6weeks po) think they will be fine by then. not sure when the “official” time to be measured is xx

Thanks Teresa, will see how they get on over the next few weeks, they still feel hard and a bit alien! How are you getting on? Your pics ar fab x

Hi no0108, I got measured at 6 weeks as I was just too impatient and too curious! All my swelling had gone though and they’ve started to soften up so I thought why not. I saw the nurse yesterday wearing my new bra and she didn’t tell me off although I was wearing a super supportive maternity bra! I think at 6/8 weeks you should be fine to get measured , if only to get out of the sports bra x

Thanks I love them need to put some more pics on, mine are just starting to soften and drop and feel like mine at last, seems to have taken a while to feel right but everyone heals differently, would have been really worried if it hadnt been for this forum, keep up the good work xx

Hey Hun, you’re not supposed to wear wired bras before the go ahead because it can push your implants into an unnatural position, as well as causing infection, irritation and soreness.
If you can’t stand your sports bras there’s plenty of non-wired bras out there, but make sure they have loads of support.
I’m almost three months post op, second op, and still in sports bras 🙁 they aren’t that bad really xx

Joannabella, thanks for the info, I suppose if your still numb under your boobs you can’t feel if the wires are digging into your incisions, have found a couple of non wired bras which I wear now and again but to be honest feel safer and more secure in my m and s zip front sports bra xx

I was never that numb, both ops, and although I’m three months post op, I’m still in sports bras, the one time I wore a wired bra it still hurt my incisions (I do have stitches showing on both sides)
The advice is there so you lower the risk of your implants settling to high, and infection, which protects both you and your surgeon xx
