Upset with MYA op rearranged

So I was set to have my op at Preston on 24th. I was seen at the Manchester clinic in May but didn’t book until July. I saw Mr Traynor on 19th July and booked at end of July. I initially booked my op for 20th Dec but due to work commitments I quickly rearranged to 24th Jan. Everything went swimmingly I had my pre op the week before Xmas. I got a call last week saying my original notes were outdated and I had to resign them to say nothing had changed. I emailed them back and that was that. Today I get a call saying that because I saw the surgeon over 6 months ago I have to see him again and then have a 2 week cooling off period before they will operate, hence it isn’t happening next week.

I now have to go to Liverpool to see the surgeon on Monday (totally out of my way and more time off work) then I have been re booked for 14th Feb. We had booked flights for a quick break for early March now wont be able to fly so lost money. I had arranged time off work now all has to be rearranged not easy and my dad is having an op the same day so really not ideal for family.

So annoyed with MYA as I was never told this and why wasn’t it picked up when I rebooked, when I had pre op or when I re signed paperwork? This is totally MYA’s fault and has caused so many problems. I was psyched up and ready too.

I am really sorry to hear this, i can imagine it is so frustrating when you’ve had yourself psyched up, but also the inconvenience of moving annual leave and the fact your dad is having an op. I think sometimes they forget its not very easy to change things like holiday.

And the fact you have had to lose out on money for your trip away too! Is there no on, like management wise, who you can speak to? I understand the cooling off period initially, but if its just purely cos you haven’t seen the consultant for 6 months but nothing has changed and your still going for the same stuff, i cant understand why you have to do it again? You would have had enough time to think about it and surely its out of your hands if youve rescheduled due to work commitments not because you was having second guesses?

They said its a legal thing that it has to be 2 weekels minimum. Ive told them im really not happy and asked for the details of who tonwrite to . I will have to live with and move on but its so awkward and communication from my pc hasnt been great at all. Im only sticking with them because my sister had mr traynor so i trust him dont want to change at this point.

Hey- sorry to hear this but just to say you can actually fly… my friend went to dubai 4 days after her op. And also I asked mr Traynor how long till I could fly and he said ‘the next day if you want to’ just means your insurance won’t be valid after a GA. hope this helps xx

Lauren I said that but they said because its been over 6 months my records are out of date. Within 6 months it can be done next day but not over six months.

Lucy I have a high risk of dvt due to blood issue so needs to be 4 weeks before I can fly and I wouldn’t travel with invalid insurance for that very reason so its lost money. I am hoping they will compensate me.

Hi Jeanette i would suggest asking them and book another consultation just in case. Its caused so much hassle and no one at mya noticed which is worrying

So i went to see Dr Traynor again today in Liverpool. All went well really nice guy reaffirmed why I chose him. He told me i now need mrsa swabs again because my pre op was now 6 weeks before my rearranged op date. He told me to ring manchester to arrange which i did on leaving. Sorted an appointment for later in the week. The when i arrive home i get a call from liverpool asking if im still around because the nurse could do it today. All very frustrating. Now thats 2 half days off work in 1 week.
