I thought I’d contribute my vaser experience on here as I found it so helpful reading others experiences when trying to decide if I should go ahead with vaser, so here goes!

I had vaser one week ago today on Upper and lower abdomen and flanks. Mine was with Mr Joffily in Fitzroy.

I won’t give you a rundown of the experience on the day as mine was exactly the same as the other girls who have written fully about that on here. Instead I’ll give you my real thoughts and advice on week one following.

Overall: Overall my view is that vaser is a serious procedure and one that should not be decided lightly. I did not realise how real it all was until afterwards. However the results can and should be worth it.

Pain: The pain is intense. The first 3 days are the hardest and I’m not going to sugar coat it they are hard. I seriously questioned why I did this and cried a lot. One week in its much better but the hardest part is when you stand up after sitting down or go to sit down it can pinch. At the moment my pain is more of a pinching sensation and is more in my flanks.

Bruising, leaking etc: I have quite a bit of bruising which is fine, it’s more how scary it is when the bruising and swelling goes south and you’re black and blue and swollen down there. Very very scary I actually went back into the clinic hysterically upset thinking something was wrong – it wasn’t! It’s normal as all your pressure from the garment sends everything down south and causes swelling and bruising there. Leaking is pretty intense. That’s probably the scary part as you leak all over your bed and the vest and have to stuff yourself with tissue they give you and keep changing it. This usually lasts about 3 days. That was the scariest part for me as I’ve never experienced something like that before. It also makes you feel so gross as you can’t shower for 3 days and the vest stinks.

Vest: The vest is horrible but by one week in I am getting used to it. You can see it does help as when you take it off you almost feel unsupported. It’s hard to sleep as it’s so uncomfortable but you get somewhat used to it. It is hard to hide not going to lie. I bought huge dresses that were structured so they wouldn’t sit on the vest. Also bought a cape cardigan to hide it. I work in an office in a professional environment so just have to be tactical about hiding it.

Time off work: I had 3 days off work. I would honestly say that’s minimum. I thought I could go back ASAP but honestly you’re not in a mental state to work after that and the first few days you’re leaking you obviously don’t want to be at work at all.

Mobility: I could barely walk for the first 3 days post – keep this in mind! One week in I can walk totally fine and have been walking a lot. The vest makes it hard to walk sometimes as it’s just so bulky but you get used to it.

Massage: GET THESE. They’re so good helps with the pain and I think necessary. I’ve had 2 and it’s also nice to see someone outside of MYA tell you how you’re looking, what’s normal etc. I’ve had 2 and having 3 more in the coming week. They’ll tell you the amount they think is necessary.

RESULTS!: I am stoked with my results. My shape is completely different. I always had a boxy stomach with no curve definition and had big love handles. I now magically can see this curve and love handles are gone. It’s the weirdest feeling to just not have to constantly worry about my chubby love handles! I’m still quite swollen and won’t expect properly to see my results for a while but I can safely say that this horrific week of pain and upset will be worth it if my results keep getting better and better.

Any specific questions – just ask!

I had upper and lower abdomen, flanks and bra roll done last week with Dr.vlok. I had 2 drains in my pubic area and I found these painful, especially the removal did You? I was going to write up my experience in a few days xx

Hi Jenny I didn’t find the drain painful at all and the removal was fine, wonder why it was so different for us? How are you doing one week later?

Thanks for the report! How are you feeling now?
I’m booked in for Feb 4th, to have the same as you but with bra roll too. I’d booked 3 days off after, but might take the whole week out to recover.
For the first 3 days after what did you do, just lay down a lot and rest?

I had two drains in lower pubic region, I’m not sure but they drained a lot of fluid so can only think that was why they were sore? Removal was painful but I was so glad they were out. I got 4 litres removed. Only just back up and about and back to normal but I’m still really swollen. I don’t mind a bit of pain tho it’s all worth it. I couldn’t have gone back to work after 3 days tho I couldn’t bend xx

Hey Shelley I’m much better now movement wise, I’d say 80% normal mobility. Stomach is still swollen and numb and there’s bumps and it’s uneven. Been told it’s all normal though so just need to be patient! I literally lay in bed for the first 3 days post. Worked from home 4th day then back in on 5th. I’d say that’s doable but everyone has different reactions so you just have to see how it goes for you. I walked round those first few days as they say that You should but it is hard!

Hi Emma, thanks so much for your review, I’ve been struggling to find info on vaser lipo. I’m just about to book vaser lipo on my flanks. I’m 5ft 8 a 10 but hide under baggy clothes as hate my love handles.
Just wondered what other doctors you went to see and why you chose dr joffily? I’ve had a consultation with him and just trying to decide between him and dr Wolf
Did they say you’d have drains as when I went they didn’t mention drains? And do you think I’ll be ok to look after my children and drive 48hrs after (I knows it’s dofferent for each person but surgeons say I will but thought I’d ask)
Lastly do you have any before and after pics?
Thanks and hope recovery is still going well x

Hi T, happy to help. I also struggled to find many answers when looking round so I understand the frustration! I got a lot of my info from this forum, realself website and just digging round the internet. I also know the feeling of hating your love handles and hiding them it’s really hard to have such an insecurity. I saw quite a few doctors, including Dr Wolf. The reason I chose Joffily and not Dr Wolf (these were my top two) was basically they seemed to have a similar reputation in terms of patients being happy with results but the key differences for me was 1) the people at MYA just seemed to really care and had a really good reputation as a clinic generally 2) Wolf wanted to do 8 incisions and I was really paranoid about scars whereas Joffily could do my three areas in 4 incisions 3) MYA was £500 cheaper. That’s really it to be honest! I also couldn’t find many honest reviews of Wolf but heaps on here of Joffily and lots of instagram pics which all looked legit rather than reviews the doctor had picked as they suited them ya know.

In terms of recovery honestly I could barely move for 2-3 days but possible maybe by the third day to drive. In terms of looking after your kids you won’t really be able to bend down for the first 5 or so days so depends on their ages and your pain levels but honestly it seems like everyone’s pain levels are different so it’s hard to say sorry!

Drain wise they never told me I’d have a drain until after it was already in. Didn’t really matter to me as I was just like do whatever you need to do to get the best result.

I haven’t yet taken any after pics but I should do this as I did take before the morning of the surgery so will be good to do a compare – I’ll upload these tomorrow 🙂

Recovery is going so well, it was hell for 1-2 weeks but I feel pretty much back to normal and it is honestly SO worth it. So many years of insecurities are just gone within a few weeks it’s seriously amazing and I cant recommend it enough just hope you have the same feelings after as I do now xx

Thanks so much for your help Emma answered a lot of questions for me.

I thing I prefer dr Wolf over dr joffily but then at same time it’s hard to find loads of info on him, and I do really like may as accompany and gays it’s all done in same place at mya, consultations surgery etc

How have you found the garments?

My biggest worry is how I will cope post op as really can only get someone to have my children (5 and 2) for 2 days. I’ll have to drop them to school on the 3rd day, it’s crazy as both surgeons have said I’d be able to drive next day but that is seeming very unlikely now.
I’m hoping as I’ll only be one area I might be able to cope with the pain
Look forward to seeing your before and after pics. I’m excited and nervous, just need to get it booked now as it’s been years of feeling insecure.

Thanks again for your quick reply x

Hi, just for an alternative experience! I had 4litres removed fro. My upper and lower abdomen yesterday and whilst I agree the leakage is the worst experience and the garment is super uncomfortable. I actually am not finding it as painful as I thought I would. Only been taking 1 painkiller every 6 hours rather than the 2 they recommended. Whilst it hurts getting up and down, I find standing and walking ok!
