I am 13 days po and thought I would share a few tips etc (for newbies) that have helped me. I have found this forum sooooo helpful and everyone on here is soooo lovely!!
xx
Prep before op:
I put 2 small plastic baskets on my dressing table. 1 for meds and 1 for products.
In 1 I put:
Plenty of paracetamol, ibruprophen and co-codamol. I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to pain. For the first few days I alternated co-codamol and ibruphrophen every 2 hours. No more than 6 of each a day. I really a made sure I kept on top of the pain. I had the operation 11 years ago previously and was not so religious with my meds and the pain got to me a few times. I kept a small pad by the bed and evey time I took tablets made a note of which and the time (god I sound really OCD!!)
this proved useful as sometimes I don’t seem to have any recollection of taking tablets. Now just taking few paracetamol a day if I need them.
Sleeping tablets
Senakot (these have been godsend as bloating has been horrendous). I also bought some prune juice and had this mixed with any fruit juice as t stand the taste. Seemed to really help in that department!!
In the other basket: (just so absolutely everything to hand and in one place)
Baby wipes
Face wipes
E45 mousturiser
Femfresh wipes
Bastise dry shampoo
Tesco antibacterial wipes
Roll on deodorant
Hand cream
Comb
Bobbles
Grips
Small mirror to admire the lovely additions
Tweezers
Nail file & polish
Thank you for that I’m writing it all down lol.. X
Bio oil
In addition to that I put a small wash basket on floor and filled with fluffy socks, pj bottoms and vest tops (vests easier to get on as you can hook over arms without having to lift arms up) Leggins, cardigans, pants and sports bras etc. This has saved pulling any heavy drawers open or trying to get things out of wardrobe, and I’ve found it easy just having everything in one small place.
V pillow has been amazing! £9 from Very. I’ve slept straight through every night despite being virtually sat up. My boyf is sleeping on an airbed in the lounge as he’s scared or knocking me in the night.
Wedge cushion. From eBay. Has been great for sitting on sofa as my sofa is supper soft and low and was impossible to get up from especially when not allowed to use your arms to push you up. I have mastered the art of using my legs for everything.
Plastic beaker & straws – treated myself to a pink barbie beaker. So much lighter to lift than a heavy glass
Magazines – my friends have saved up magazines for a few weeks so was nice to have a big pile to flick through when the boredom sets in!
Bras! – I could write a whole A4 sheet on the bra saga!
great advice cheers xx

Bras! – I could write a whole A4 sheet on the bra saga! I must have tried about 50. I got a Macom which looked and felt fab but nurse said she didn’t recommend it so have sent that back. I also took a shock absorber to hosp and tesco high impact. I was so swollen after op that she could just about get shock absorber on but it pressed terribly on my dressings and scars and was sooo uncomfortable despite being super supportive and not to mention £30! I ordered a load more, triumph and shock absorber etc. Triumph sat better on scars and drerssings but cup sizes seemed massive and gave me Madonna-esque cone boobies! Not a good look! So sent those back. Had my dressings off after 7 days and was not looking forward to the bras touching the actual scars, especially as they have been digging in and sat right on top. Worried is would rub my scars and mess them up. In desparation got my boyfriend to take me and my greasy haired self to M&S and bought a load of bras to try at home. The M&S sports bras (2 for £16) have been amazing!!! they are so soft and the band sits just under my scar and does not dig in which is perfect. I wear a clean one each day. Wish I’d just got these in the first place as have spent a small fortune in the quest for the perfect bra. I had 390cc overs and I’m wearing a D cup at moment. I also found bra extenders useful as I was 5 inches bigger in my band size initially after the op due to the GA and co-codamol. I’m still a bit swollen 13 days on but only about an inch bigger than normal.
Having to post this in drubs and drabs as won’t let me type it all? Weird ha ha
Hospital bag:
Face wipes
Baby wipes
Comb
I only had my first shower yesterday so have been using flannels and wipes for what seems like forever. I’ve used john sons baby shampoo on hair as not irritating to scars. Used sanex zero on body. Made sure shower was cleaned and ‘dettol sprayed’ beforehand. Dried my scars using cool setting on hairdryer which has done the trick.
This is the 2nd time I’ve had a ba and would definitely say I was a lot more organised (verging on OCD)
this time!! Hope it helps ….
Thank you. I am already being super OCD and organising things to buy/do before my op. But nice to know I am not the only one who likes to be super prepared. x

No probes ladeez! Glad to be of help.
Olivia89 – I travelled very light to the hospital (believe it or not) ha ha! I travelled in comfy clothes. Took a bag with tracksuit bottoms, zip up hoody and vest for following day going home. 3 different sports bras. Few magazines. Ribena cartons. Quavers. Throat sweets. Face wipes. Toothbrush & paste. Phone. Bank card. Comb. Grips. Bobble (no metal). V pillow for car to travel with. I think that was the lot xx
Wow pollywoo it sound like you have been more stocked than boots
I was far less organised, before my op I bought 1 pair of button up pajamas ( because I didn’t already own a pair) and then 3 day PO It dawned on me I should probably go out and buy some sports bras for when the tape was taken off !!!! I really did have the intention of prepping myself, but I failed
Thank you so much
I’m trying to be organised and this has really helped…I’m even making bigger meals and freezing them down in preperation. Am going to England for op and flying back to Portugal 2 weeks after. Do you think I’ll be ok to fend for myself after this as long as I’m organised? xxx
Thank you so much

Hsquibb you will be fine, the first week if you have any pain is the worst, I wasnt in pain but I found it difficult for the first couple of days getting up on my own so needed help, I wasn’t one of the organised people, but I managed to wash my hair by leaning over the bath at 4 days PO (i let it dry naturally so my arms were not raised high),
By 8 days PO I was driving and continuing with life normally just ensuring that I didn’t lift anything heavy, or raises arms too high!
At 2 weeks PO you should be back to normal, this is when most people return back to work, so you will be fine looking after yourself x x
Hi polly, this head is great. Really helpful. I am currently 5 days PO and feeling surprising good just keep forgetting about raising my arms but get reminded by the sharp stabbing pain when I do lol. Is it alright if I friend request you? X
thanks amanda86

Hsquibb – you’ll be just fine after 2 weeks. All I’d say is just be a bit careful and if something feels hard then don’t do it. I’m 4 weeks PO now and pretty much all normal activity resumed. I got my hair washed at hairdressers for £6 as couldnt bring myself to lean over the bath. Best money i ever spent! Good idea with freezing meals by the way!! X
Jo – yeah course! Haven’t uploaded any pics though yet I’m afraid X
Hi Pollywoo, im a month away from my op and ive been stressing out about which bra’s to get. I hate the way some support bras give you the pointy look. i really dont want to ruin my new additions by wearing the wrong bra! your post was so helpful, thank you!! Have other people found the M&S one’s the best?? i’ve also been told by friends that asda and matalan do good ones xx
pollywoo, I’m so lucky, my mum has her own hairdressers so she’ll be cheif hair washer! how many days/weeks post op did you feel up to that? and did you lean forwards or back? i’m guessing forwards? sounds silly, but can you do things like opening the fridge? I imagine there are so many things we take for granted that u just cant do post op! x
Hey hsquibb
how lucky are you having a hairdresser in family – brilliant!! I’d be making the most of that ha ha. I had wash at the salon 8 days PO. The dry shampoo made me feel soooo grubby. So I sat in salon chair and lent backwards. I did 2 pigtail plaits after to keep is our of my face and it didn’t get so greasy, so left if plaited for a few more days. I had first proper shower at 2 weeks PO, and got to admit was pretty scared about slipping. Had bought a bath mat previously though and it didn’t the trick. My boyfriend washed my hair for me the first time stood up in the shower and then I just stood under it to rinse water. Then I mastered the art of standing in shower but tipping my head forward and squating to get my hands to top of head. Honestly sounds worse than it was but your body tells you if you are doing too much. Weeks 1 & 2 are the hardest but you start doing more and more each day. I just avoided heavy things like fridge, light pulls, full kettles and washing machine door until it felt right. Week 3 I was pretty much back to normal xx
pollywoo, your like a goddess with all your tips and what to have prepared! im having mine done on the 11th may and im a bit of a scatter brain and so you have really helped, need to get buying my support bras!!!
Aah thanks Xemax – glad to be of help
hope it all goes well xx
This is a fab post pollywoo! I’m in for my second ba on Wednesday I’ve not bought a thing yet think I best get my but into gear
your list will be very helpful Thankyou xxx
