1st week post-op…not happy!

Am not one to moan at all, but I want to make people aware who are are going for 1 week post-op appointments after having a BA!

I had my 1 week check y-day, the nurse called me in there were 2, both cleaned there hands! And had new dressings, I asked why I was having new dressings I was told the ones I had on will be removed and that’s it…but I left it to the nurses as they know what there doing!

One nurse removed dressings and the other had tweezers to remove steri strips both wearing NO GLOVES!

She said they will leave dressings off but just put new steri strips on I had a little look in mirror and seen sticktches quite long when I asked nurse why there that long, she said when I go back in another wk they will snip them…I was confused by this point as I was told by mya my nxt appt will be 5 wks, but yet these nurses told me they will call for me in another week to have steri strips removed!oh an I wasn’t aloowed to shower the front still, how the hell was my scars meant to heal and breathe???

Left it at that, on the way home called the clinic manager she wasn’t happy as they shud of snipped the stitches leaving about 1-2 cms just enough for them to dissolve! I told her my mum could do it when I got home, when arrived home mum trimmed stitches down we could only see one each side, then I had a shower and removed steri strips myself only to find another long stitch, so trimmed that myself then let them have water and breathe…just had a bath, guess what, found another long stitch which just had to trim, sorry for going on but I have paid money like us all and I shouldn’t have to do this, am sure this should be within the aftercare treatment! I will be taking further with mya!

I will look into this right away.

Hey hun, sorry to hear about this, maybe they just misunderstood about the stitches. As for the gloves, I’m a nurse auxilliary, and you’re taught that you don’t HAVE to wear gloves unless dealing with bodily fluids. As long as you wash hands before and after. That’s what I was always taught anyway.

Can’t really help you with the rest as ~I’m pre op, but don’t let it get you down. xxx

Oh that doesn’t sound good!

I had my one week last Thursday and everything u expected I had done, dressing removed, stitches trimmed and cleaned wearing gloves! she changed her gloves like three times! And steri strips put on and told I can shower but shouldn’t get them soaking and dry with a separate (clean) towel from what you dry the rest of the rest of your body.

Hollyhotpants…I dnt mind them not wearing gloves but one of nurses fingernails were dirty! That put me off!

And am not lettin this get me down as my original nurse was off sick so had to go the outpatients dep in the hospital were I had my operation! X

Aw thats not good. That’s crap too, surely if they were taking someone elses appointments they should have known what they were supposed to be doing. xxx

Ano thought that myself, am really not one to maon, av never bothered them before my op or after, so when something like this happens, it makes me think! But am still smiling with my boobies xx

Hiya Shelley, I had my one week check up yesterday to and my nurse was off sick so went to the hosp to see nurse there. I was happy with most things but there was a lot of questions she couldn’t answer, she just said we have a great deal to do with mya. She how ever I think only put strips on and my left incision isn’t quite healed!! I dunno if your meant to sitch it back up I’m not a nurse lol and woke this morning to it ozzing and it still is now. I have rang mya and waiting for them to ring back, I did ring at 11 this morning though. I know there very busy just want to know what I’m meant to do and if everything is ok x x c

Well that says it all she shouldn’t say sopmething like that, I’ll be adding that in my email!

Just keep ringing them about ye oozing we shouldn’t have to wait around the money we pay! The clinic manager told me y-day to keep an eye out for oozing so they should deal with that right away! Keep me informed hunny!xx

I had my 1 week post op, and got told i could to with more dressing on and to come back next week! So i had another one a week later which was today, now shes saying my scar hasnt healed properly and is open and the sides

So gutted, not even gona be able to have a proper shower for another week now!

If nobody gives me a kiss on NYEVE il know its cos im stinking!

(haha not rele i know i can have baths just aint the same is it)

Im not complaining tbh though im just worried why i arent healing

Tonesx…I feel sorry for u! Some people heal faster than others, are u eating fruit and veg and drinking water this does help, am eating grapes as am typing did you take you antibiotics (full course)?xx

What hospital were you at? and if MYA nurse was off sick, then surely its down to them to have back up staff not the NHS ones, as thats what you paid for! good luck with your healing, hope you all have a fab new year

Every nurse should know to wear gloves when doing a wound dressing no matter what type – to prevent infection. Hands may look clean but who knows. I hate to moan also but my nurse never wore gloves was screaming in my head for her to put them on as she was so nice.

does that really help? In all honestly ive ate nothing healthy at all, its christmas ive stuffed myself on everything bad i could!

Hey hunny, in the end I rang the out of hours nurse who I got threw to stright away. She has told me to put pressure on it and more dressing so I have been to tesco but have had to stick tape on my strips. If it carries on bleeding then got to ring back in the morning but to be honest I might just ask to see the nurse anyway to put my mind at ease x x x

And tonesx that what I have heard fruit and veg is good along with a balanced diet, dnt get me wrong av eat take-aways and that’s the only bit of fruit I have had them grapes, just suggesting something for u hun!xx

And that’s gd kim, I keep checking mine now, aahh things we have 2 go through! If I took a video of what I had to do with my last long stitch that was sticking out, I think u would of been shocked, it was under another stitch so had to get me mum to get tweezers and pull it through slowly so I could trim it, gd job my mum knows what she is doing, more than the nurses in my case!xx

I can’t believe that, I don’t have sitches in mine now though?? I’m going to ring back up in the morning. I never got told towatch out for oozing yesterday which is why it was a surpise this morning x x x

my week check up was abit of a mess too, they had emailed me the night before saying my appointment will have to be changed but i didnt check my emails that day so i turned up anyway n they had to get a nurse in last minute and she asked me what needs doing, and didnt have my records, asif id know what 2 do!! made me even more nervous! hope it gets sorted for u hun xx
