I had my op on Wednesday with Mr Adamo at Highgate, going to post my story tomorrow when I have more time but I have a few issues/questions if anyone knows the answer or has an opinion…

Should I be wearing my sports bra all the time or just at night?

One of my breasts (left one) feels more painful and swollen than the other, is that normal?

I can really feel the incision on the left breast but the one on the right isn’t hurting at all.

I’ve got quite a large numb patch on my left breast – has anyone else had this and how long before it goes away?

Other than the painkillers subscribed, can I take anything else for the swelling (iboprufen)?

Probably really obvious questions.. just wondering if my recovery is normal. I feel okay to get up and walk around a bit but I’m still struggling with sitting up, moving around, getting comfortable to sleep etc (mostly because of the pain in the left one!)

I feel like I can’t get excited about them until they feel normal!

    Thanks x

You should really be wearing a sports bra all the time unless your surgeon has advised differently.

It is normal to feel pain so soon after your op, both breasts are treated as seperate operations so one may heal differently to the other one, the same goes for your insicions. Most women will experience some numbness, it can take a while for the feeling to come back or it may come back quickly, it’s different with everyone.

You can take codine, or cocodomol I think but I know you can definately take paracetomal, that’s all I could take as the medicines the hospital gave me made me ill. I’m suprised you werent given anything else to take? Most people get a prescription when they get discharged.

I’m also really suprised a nurse it your surgeon didn’t explain half this stuff!!

Hi hun I’d ring your nurse if I was you, be careful, the painkillers they give you are very strong so wouldn’t advise taking anything else x

Codeine/cocodamol both contain paracetamol. Please don’t take them together, u will OD on paracetamol. If u need to take anythin else I think u can take ibuprofen but u should ring and check first and ur not meant to take it if u have athsma x

    Hiya girlies, thank you.

The nurse didn’t even mention a sports bra on the day and nor did the surgeon.

They gave me subscribed painkillers – co dydramol or something but actually since yesterday the pain seems to be getting easier and I haven’t taken anything else so I’m going to see how I get on and ring my nurse if it gets worse again

    Thanks for all your replies!
