im 2 days post op and trying to sleep ur-right but my back is in agony, feel like i need to crack it lol, but that is not going to happen, any ideas on what i could do would be greatly appreciated!! can i lie flat on my back yet? xx
Hi hun, I was told to stay elevated for at least a week it really helps with the swelling. Do you have a v-pillow? If not, theyre worth the investment defo!! Just prop yourself up with lots of pillows and cushions and lie on an incline hun…I couldnt lie flat for about 2 weeks and took until about 7 weeks til I could lie on my side..Im 10 weeks p.o now and still find it a bit uncomfortable!
It really does get better hun xx
yeah ive got a v pillow and like 6 other pillows propped behind me in bed but its my back just in agony with it! feel like all im doing is moaning but my back pain is awful xx
hun try putting some pillows underneath ur legs, i found it most comfy when they were quite near the top almost under my bum, i had exactly the same discomfort as you with my back-its a killer! also i dont know what drugs the hosp gave u but mine gave me tramadol, i stuck to my paracetamol in the days but found 1 or 2 of the tramadol at night helped a bit as theyre quite strong! stick with it hun, ots only for a week xx
ps i def second kezza with the v pillow! best thing ever-ill be 3 weeks p/o on friday when we go on holiday and im desperately trying to think of how i can take it with me!!lol (weve only paid to tk hand luggage)x
I put the bottom pillow into the small of my back and then layered the other pillows on top like a ski slope and put the v pillow over the top. That helped my back.
im willing to try anything just in so much pain. i havent got tramadol, i was given co-codamol the 30/500. the v pillow is quite un-comfortable for me but could be the pay i postitioning my pillows. going to try a few diff ways tonight. xx
Laurajayne you can req tramadol from your local GP if you want? They’ll prescribe it as you’ve had an op. I got some from my GP. I use them for migraines now lol.
Laura, I dont know how the others feel but I slept really low down quite early on. I just kept my head propped really on the v pillow but after a few days I slept on my side as it was most comfortable.
The swelling can be helped with ice/cool packs
xx
i might try that then as sleeping lower would support my back better i think. how did you find getting up in the morning though if you were lying quite flat? as atm im sleeping upright and find it a struggle to sit up in the morning xxx
It’s the norm really. I turned onto my side and pulled myself up. You feel like a bit of a cripple eh? lol. It will soon pass. Promise
If your sleeping lower you wont get such a sore back and numb bum. Try it for one night and see how it goes. Just make sure you’ve got plenty pillows to hand incase you need them.
If you have a relative or partner they could give you a hand in the morning, just helping you up out of bed, it is quite difficult first thing.
xx
thanks hun youve been great, yeah ive got my mum shes at my back and call bless her, so im going to have a nap shortly so will try sleeping lower down and then if that goes ok will sleep like that later to xx
Trial an error hun, thats all it is. Everyone is different to so lots of folk advise different things. Just try them all and see what works best for you.
Enjoy your wee afternoon nap, sweet dreams
xx
Poor you;( it is difficult. You are not alone tho. We are all suffering from insomnia! Stay strong xxx
