I found out yesterday I am anaemic and despite the results being sent to my surgeon I am still waiting to hear whether I can still have surgery on Tuesday or not… And I feel like I’m harassing the clinic for answers so I don’t want o ring them again
i swear some people think this is an everyday thing for us and we have ops all the time, not only am I really anxious but all of my family have arranged time off work etc so I need o know one way or the other as soon as
Sorry for the moan x
Keep pestering them darl. Don’t let it get too late to do anything. If you want an answer you need to chase them. They are extremely busy right now. I struggled to get in touch with my PC, I just kept harassing reception twice a day and they eventually get back to you. If anything she was grateful of the reminders. They do want to help, honestly
Xx
I agree with kristi, you have to harass them! Remember that they have lots of patients to deal with (not saying this is an excuse) but you have to let them know that your message is urgent so they can make you a priority
What clinic are you at? xx
Hun, I went through exactly the same thing last week, and I didn’t find out till the day before my op that it was cancelled! It’s not nice because you cant be excited and look forward to the op because you dont know if it’ll go ahead
Really hope you get the op – and I agree, do harass them! They are used to it, and you’ve payed a lot of money for their services! xx
Thats exactly how I feel, I’ve paid all this money and not really getting a satisfactory service.
I do appreciate that they are really busy, but in my line of work I was so busy I used to work every hour, but if somebody emailed me or left messages I would ring them or reply as best I could, and I would tell them the exact position with their case and the reply I got back yesterday “no not as yet Clair” when I asked if there was any news I feel is a bit poor. Why can’t they just say the results were faxed over to the surgeon at such a time and we have been waiting for a reply but she has been in consultations all day blah blah, at least I know it is definitely being dealt with.
To find out the day before is not acceptable in my opinion, when it is such a big thing for us. This will be the second time my op has been put back and when it was cancelled last time (through no fault of MYA, the surgeon was having an op) I was offered an earlier date which was like a week away or something and when I explained I couldnt get organised before then or find anyone to have the children they seemed to be quite shocked questioning whether there was anybody that could have the children for me…
Because I can’t lift after the operation I am depending heavily on all of my family to help and they all work, my husband has booked in a hotel for 2 nights so I will need to cancel that… my feeling is that they will be on the other end of the phone if I still owed them money!
Dolly92 I am going through the Birmingham clinic. Should we really have to keep phoning them to remind them of our case
Bethyelliott, was your op cancelled because you are aneamic? I have been told by my GP that in his opinion they will cancel the operation and it will take at least 3 months on iron tablets to get my levels up to normal
xx
Hi cfp1980
I am so sorry to see this post. I am looking into this right away.
Many thanks
MYA Mod x
I had a low platelet count which is quite similar I think. I’m now having to see my doctor and be refered to a hematologist perhaps, to find out if my count is normal for me or there is an underlying problem…
I too had arranged for my kids to be looked after and had paid for a hotel for my husband. He had also booked a week of work etc. It’s so frustrating, but at the end of the day, it’s better that we are fit and healthy for the op. xx
Oh no, this really doesnt bode well, i had bloods back today and got told i need to go back in to see nurse, which i suspect is for my iron being low. But been waiting for call back from nurse snice i called at twelve today and have since rang and reminded them, still no call
so here i am again chasing the staff at mya. Cfp i agree that we shudnt have to keep chasing and reminding, we paid alot of money and expect good service. Im a nurse and work twelve hour busy busy shifts and like u i dont need to be reminded to care for my patients, its my job. All im after is a simple call to explain my blood results to me and why i need to see nurse again. I feel same as you in that its not satisfactory service when we are continually fobbed off! Hope you get sorted xx
Hi lozzalooloo I did have a call yesterday afternoon (I suspect as a result of this post) and was told that the surgeon was in theatre most of the day but I would get an answer by the end of the day. I didn’t hold out much hope but I was wrong, I got a call shortly after 5pm. The surgeon has requested I have an urgent blood test today and if my levels are below 10 I will need to psone, I couldn’t get in at my surgery so I’m going to Birmingham this morning. Fingers crossed!!
It’s a shame we have to come on here to get an answer but at least I know what is happening now. Hope you get sorted – try sending s message to the MYA mod on here? When is your op? Xx
Thats good that you got a call back, its not good that your levels may be below 10 though, hopin they arent for your sake. I know my iron was borderline at my last blood test in dec, at 11,so i think maybe its below now, i did call back myself at 8 last night to try to find out whats goin on and was told that they are just inconclusive and i have to go back in, bumma. Ive been told that i need to go next wed to see nurse again, really gutted it if means i cant have the op when it due on 22nd of feb. Lets hope we both get sorted xx
