    Hi Devon

    Sizznat is right, absolutely EVERYTHING.

An operating theatre is a sterile environment and needs to remain so. No ‘foreign’ objects allowed in.

Also, they clip and stick things all over us for monitoring purposes, so we need to

be free from anything that can come off eg, false eyelashes, nails etc.

The reason your nails to come off is because during surgery they need to check something called your cap refill, it’s a sign depending on the time it takes your nail bed to fill of oxygenation and that’s the only reason. False eyelashes either strip or semi perm is because your eye is taped during surgery.. Eyes are taped to stop dryness and any foreign object going in. No other reason.. I work in theatres every day x

I have a few piercings in my ear cartilage: tragus and antitragus – will these need to come out? I’m having rhino xx

Piercings are a different matter. If they are using diathermy which they probably are they need to come out, anything metal is a no no x
