    Hi girls

I’m booked in for my op this sat. I was surprised to find out that the op is at 7 or 8 in the evening, and the first girl to be admitted for her op with the same surgeon is at 7:30am (so op at 8:30 is)!!

So I just spoke with my patient coordinator… after a long chat, I have found out that the Dr is doing 9 BA’s that day. If you do the maths… at roughly 45mins per op, then ad prep time etc; it means that he is working non-stop for almost 12 hours. And I am the last of the day.

I am sorry, but how on earth is the quality of the work not going to be compromised at the end of a marathon like that. With the detail and focus it takes to do this level of work… after 11hrs surely the out out is going to suffer? Who can say they are feeling at their best after a 12 hrs stint at work?!

She said that if the surgeon is to tired he’ll not operate so don’t worry! Again- not a satisfactory response; this should even be a possibility.

Then she said if your not happy you can re-book for a future date! Again, not satisfactory as I have organised my life around this.

I am totally distressed by this news. It feels like a production line. Not a high end quality operation being run with quality out-out in mind.

12 hours is quite normal i think for surgeons/doctors to work. This is quite normal, as when i had mine, the 1st lady was admitted at 7am. The doctor then did not some round and see her till 8pm. The other lady who was my boobie buddy had hers done about 6pm with a uplift. Some operations last longer than 12 hours,(not ba haha) so i really would not worry, They could probably do this in their sleep.haha.

Im sure you will be fine, its probably nervous creeping in etc. Just enjoy the day of rest, before you know it, you will be enjoying your new boobies. xx

Please don’t let this spoil your pre op excitement.

Your getting a good response off the forum and by the sounds of it these girlies know their surgeons lol.

If your not getting any reassurance from your PC the girls on here should hopefully give you a wee confidence boost.

Worst case scenario you re-book and state you will only accept an early admission.

I hope everything turns out ok for you chick. I’m sure they wouldn’t compromise your results. You’ve paid good money just like everyone else. The quality will not be any less and if it even were to be the case, you’ve got a law suit on your hands and you’ll be a millionnaire lol. Chin up chick.

    xx

if your a night case youll be one of the last to have it done, day cases go first. nightcase usually late afternoon depending how many day cases there are xx

Oh forestbabe you did ring her then. Don’t worry hun. It will be fine. Like the girls said don’t let it ruin your time leading upto BA.

I know it feels like one in one out but they just wouldn’t operate if they weren’t used to doing those sorts of hours I guess.

Do know where your coming from hun. I wasn’t happy that I was 11am on a day case as I wanted to be in first thing to get it over with but the way I looked at it. The later it is the more likely your gonna get a good nights sleep with the amount of drugs still in you 😆

Come on boobie bud. Chin up x

    Hi Girls

Thank you for your supportive responses.

    It’s greatly appreciated.

I still struggle to believe though that a 12 hrs day is a good thing. I think I’m going to talk with the patient coordinator once more to see if she can get me in on Monday instead at an earlier time.

    Love xXx

night cases don’t always go in late, i was an overnight and my op was at 1.00 admission at 11.

Try not to worry, they wouldn’t do these things unless they felt able, at the end of the day they have enough days in the month that if they wanted to they could make people wait, they obviously feel they don’t need to!

Hi lovely I work with surgeons daily……..their work does not go down hill as the day goes on, they maintain insane accuracy with everything they do work wise……12 hours to a surgeon is nothing, they do surgeries that take that long in one go….. This really isn’t an issue so please don’t worry at all :) xx

They do it around the clock and do it with total easy 2nd nature xx

This is quite normal for doctors/surgeons,…sadly I am forever suffering from their long workhours, meaning I dont see my hotstuff fella as often as I’d like as he starts work at 8am, then has surgeries etc nonstop some days, and often dosent come home until 10am.

I can totally see your point though, but please dont worry about it, Dr C is a very capable surgeon.

Have another chat to your pc and explain your concerns, perhaps they are able to do something for you.

Dear all, I work in the NHS for a huge hospital in London, home to a major trauma centre and liver transplant centre. Some of our surgeons due to the nature and complexity of patients work extremely long hours, often through the night, successfully saving people’s lives. Those kind of operations are so complex, and can take all day sometimes. That’s what makes surgeons so amazing, they can work long hours and still maintain their high levels of concentration. So don’t fear, breast surgeons are no different, the only difference for them is that unlike bigger procedures, their stints in theatre are short and they would get a few minutes in between patients while theatre is being cleaned down. Please don;t worry about a thing, these people are brilliant at what they do!! xx

    hi hun,

I can see your concerns but like some other girls have said doctors/surgeons often work shifts, and as a nurse I see this 1st hand and also wrk 12 hour shifts myself. you’ll be in safe hands try not too worry :) xx

hey, i was 6 of 7 on my surgery date and was in by 11.45am, its a bit like a conveyor belt, the surgeon doesnt do the prep, nurses/anesthetist and another dr was putting me under, while the surgeon was operating on someone else they come out, you go in and have your 45mins and then the nurses wake you up again, in the mean time someone else will be prepd and ready to go in so its not really 12hrs to be honest, xx

It’s normal for a surgeon to operate for that length of time. my uncle is a surgeon and he does long days and is used to it. I wouldnt get stressed out about it x

hya hun, surgeons are trained to work very long spurts of time… some serious life saving operations can take 20 hours and surgeons will work this none stop( like seperating siamese twins for example) and these are far more complex mentally draining technical types of surgery) so i wouldnt even worry about it at all xxxxx
