Anti Depressants

Has anyone been refused thier BA if they’re currently taking anti depressants? xx

That’s OK hun, i wasn’t when i booked the surgery but i found out my boyfriend was cheating on me and had to move out of the flat etc, it’s been a rocky couple of weeks! I just don’t want it to effect my op because i’ve wanted it for sooooo long and finally got it booked! xx

Suzyp, I am on anti-depressants. But as long as your depression is not related to your body then it should be fine. My PC asked why I was on them and said that they just needed to know that it’s not related to how I feel about my body. I explained to her that it’s just been down to a stressful couple of years because of my divorce and stuff related to that and she said that shouldn’t pose a problem.

Thanks Clare, that does really help. I wasn’t sure if they would interfere with the sugery or they’d say i was mentally unstable or anything! Would be so upset if it ruined this for me xx

Suzy, I too used to be on anti-depressents. Got my BA 15 March. I asked them if it was a problem if I needed to go back on them (thankfully, I seem to be coping ok without them) and they said it’s absolutely fine. Like Clare, they just checked with me why I used to be on them and that it wasn’t a body related issue. x

Hi suzyp, I’m on antidepressants and had my op on Friday I just got a letter from my doc to say they were happy for me to go ahead with the ba (I just rang them and said it’s something I’ve wanted for years and they were absolutely fine, wrote a letter to the surgeon that day and mr traynor was very happy with that) xxx

That’s loads of help thanks girls, was really worried they wouldn’t let me have it! At least i still have it to look forward to now xx

Hi hun, I was on ad and had my opp yesterday! Explain to the dr why your taking them and I’m sure you will be fine xxx

I am due to have my BA next Wednesday and am taking a low dose anti depressant, it doesn’t appear to be a problem at all, but the nurse did mention that she would have to write to my GP just to check everything was ok, so far i haven’t heard anything to say there is any problem so am keeping everything crossed that its all ok Hope this helps a little. Hope your op helps cheer you up from the miserable time it sounds like you have had lately
