Hi ladies
I have just had a successful job interview for a care worker post – working with mentally and physically disabled people. My op is in 5 weeks (I didn’t mention it at interview for fear of putting them off me!). I have to wait for my CRB check to come through – which could take weeks or months, then I will start immediately.
I was wondering how long others have had off work in this sort of role, and if it was hard when they got back. I’m sooo pleased I got the job but the timing isn’t great! xx
Hi i am a Midwife, working within the delivery area, My Op is 4 weeks today and im having 4 weeks annual leave following my Op just to be on the safe side as we transfer ladies in wheelchairs/beds. Get into awkward positions for labour and delivery. I dont really do any real lifting but i have a generally physical job. xx
Hi Bethy Congratulations. I’ve just been successfully in a care worker job role aswell
I’ve had my OP though
well done to you for getting job to
. I’m also waiting for my CRB check to come back x
I am hun! I took 3 weeks off just to be on the safe side as it’s long hours and quite physical xxx
I work in a mental health hospital.. Im pretty hands on out n about all over.. I’m having 2 weeks off annual leave.. My works don’t know yet I’m trying to work up the courage to tell them
im a care worker , i had my nose done tho and i had to take 1month of work, not sure if its abit different as where youe lifting pushing and stuff i could of have bad nose bleeds!x
Phone sent that too early lol.. Yeh I thought 2 week would have been ok but not sure really. Need to ask works advice but am scared to tell them for some strange reason lol.
Thanks for the advice girls. I think I might tell them I’m having an operation and I’ll need a few weeks to recover….I kind of just feel a bit cheeky doing it when I’ve only just got it though!
How long does a CRB check take? I’ve heard weeks or months. I’m hoping months!
(Apologies for the incorrect phrasing I used on my post, just spotted now!)
xx
they dont have to know what its for, just get a sick note thats what i done
hi i am a carer and i am having 3 wweks off just had my op today ,, i didnt tell my company what i was getting though as believe me they are funny about it get the job sign your contact and then tell them … in my probabtion area i was off for 2 and half months as i was wuiet ill and they kept me on so dont worry you’ll be fine babe
xxxx
Im a support worker/carer in the community hun I took 2 weeks off, been doin the job for 4 years now my crb took 2 weeks to come back, an I’m nearly 6 weeks po now, I have quite easy calls so quite lucky, I told my manager I need 2 weeks off as I’m havin an operation an wen I come back I have to take it easy for 4 weeks so don’t give me any work where I have to push people in wheelchairs etc an they were fine with it, they even no wat iv had done now an jus say wat u wan that for.
Usually before u start they ask u if u have any hols comin up or anything, I’d tell them before u start hun of I were u they’ll be fine they won’t turn round an say u can’t have the job then, so don’t worry. Buy a really tight sports bra I recommend m&s zip up one 20 quid they don’t move in it, an I had unders too xx
Just an update – I told my new supervisor that I was having an op (didn’t go into it..), and she said that’s no bother at all – by the time my CRB check comes back it will be around op time anyway, and I can just postpone my start date until I’m ready to go! Honestly I think they must be the nicest people to work for ever!
Thanks for your advice – I feel a lot better now I’ve let them know
Staceyg26, thanks for the bra advice – I’ve purchased another really good one now xx
Unfortunately I was told it wouldn’t be acceptable to have my op on the sick.. So I had to use 4 weeks annual leave..
No probs huni glad u sorted it, u can relax now an look forward to ur op xx
i was refused sick pay so i have used a week holiday and then going to see my doctor and get a sick note off them on thursday as i cant go back to physical work with just having a boob job – just hope me gp doesnt refuse to give me a note otherwise my pay will be crap this next month
xxx
I can’t understand why you wouldn’t be able to get a sick note or sick leave for this. It’s not fair
Some morbidly obese people can be on the sick for years…xx
i haven’t gone into detail with my work what i’m having done i just explained it was an operation and i needed 3weeks off due to stitches and they said that was fine but they need a sick note but mya dont do sick notes so i have to wait and see mt gp but if i went to my gp before the op there was a chance he would make me pay and i didnt want to take that chance so i’m just going to chance it on thursday- fingers crossed he gives me one cos then it will be 2weeks off without pay
not good lol glad you got sorted though bethy really great news xxx
Hey Hun. I’m a nurse auxiliary and my surgeon told me 6 weeks to two months because of manual handling. I’m four weeks post op now and there’s no way I could go back to work and do any manual handling yet! I find it hard enough hoovering, that really pulls my boobs, never mind turning a patient! So I’m not risking it and taking the full six weeks xx
I didn’t have a problem getting a sick note from my GP. I literally went in and said “I’ve had my boobs done, enlarged, and my surgeon said that because of my type of job I will need six weeks off. I’ve self certified for seven days already so can I have a note for the next five please?” and he went “yes no problem here you go” and gave me one for six weeks lol. But then I sent it into work and they said I couldn’t claim sick pay off them so was pointless anyway lol xx
oh tar holly think when i go to the doctors on thursday im going to get the full 6weeks off as i use hoists slip sheets the lot and i was laid in bed thinking to myself how am i going to do all this when i cant even run on a tgreadmill for 6weeks lol so going to try and get a 5week sick not xxx
Defo Hun. I was thinking of going back this week, they have a shift for me tomorrow if I want it, but I just don’t feel “healed enough” if that makes any sense? Lol. You know they say you know your own body? Well mine is just saying I’m not ready for that kind of work yet. I would seriously hurt myself if I tried putting an obese patient in a sling, Or some people on my wards are stroke patients too, so they’re just a dead weight when you turn them, No chance I could do it yet xx I’m guessing you’re in the same situation hun xx
yeah the exact same situation hun i just hope the doctor gives me a sick note for 5 weeks ,, do you think he will? well your doing the right thing holly its better to be safe than sorry last thing you want is to go back to work too early and damage your new boobies your a star thank you so much for commenting on here lol xxx
Lol that’s ok! Yeah I think he should. Just say your surgeon advised it because of manual handling. xx
Sorry 2 butt in girls ..lol I work on a nursing unit and went back after 3 weeks and I found it hard to say the Leat ..they put me on a resedential unit which was easy enough ..first day back on nursing 2day and im feeling ok and the girls are really helpful and understanding I will be 6 weeks Thursday but I completely agree with u girls take the full 6 weeks if u cab luckily I had 3 weeks holiday so used that couldn’t afford going unpaid as we don’t get sick leave which is shit..hotta look after the bad boys hehe ..hope your all healing well Holly hotpants & kaylajay your both looking fab !! X
